SPECIAL INVITATION EXTENDED TO ALL JUNE ELECTION CANDIDATES
This is an opportunity for friends and members of the Greater Golden Hill business community and their customers to get together and get to know each other better. Grab a stack of business cards and come on down to mix and mingle. In 2004 Pizzeria Luigi™ opened its doors atop Golden Hill, San Diego and has been firing up award-winning thin crust pies ever since. According to owner Luigi Agostini , Golden Hill reminds him of his hometown in Italy; a small community where everyone knows each other, walks, rides bikes and scooters, and frequents local, independent businesses. Luigi wanted a piece of that pie. A short time later, Luigi sold his pizzeria in Poway and took up shop in Golden Hill. Pizzeria Luigi has become a neighborhood institution for fast, affordable, and simple Italian food served lunchtime to late-night. The importance of community is a value that Pizzeria Luigi operates by. |

La Mission NOW Playing in San Diego Starring Benjamin Bratt ** Don't miss this great film that wowed audiences at the recent 2010 San Diego Latino Film Festival ** At Landmark Theatres Hillcrest & AMC Palm Promenade 24
Synopsis: Growing up in the Mission district of San Francisco, Che Rivera (Benjamin Bratt) has always had to be tough to survive. He's a powerful man respected throughout the Mission barrio for his masculinity and his strength, as well as for his hobby building beautiful lowrider cars. At the same time he's also a man feared for his street-tough ways and violent temper. A reformed inmate and recovering alcoholic, Che has worked hard to redeem his life and do right by his pride and joy: his only son, Jes, whom he has raised on his own after the death of his wife. Che's path to redemption is tested, however, when he discovers Jes is gay. In a rage, Che violently beats Jes, disowning him. He loses his son - and loses himself in the process. Isolated and alone, Che comes to realize that his patriarchal pride is meaningless to him, and to maintain his idea of masculinity, he's sacrificed the one thing that he cherishes most - the love of his son. To survive his neighborhood, Che has always lived with his fists. To survive as a complete man, he'll have to embrace a side of himself he's never shown. Website: www.lamissionthemovie.com

Please join other community residents in an open discussion on how to respond to this issue of racial disparity of Black children in Child Welfare Services (formerly CPS). As a forum participant, you will be joining many other Southern Californians, who have implemented strategic planning meetings to develop plan of actions to address this alarming trend. The Right Thing to Do "Cowardice asks the question, is it safe? Expediency asks the question, is it polite? Vanity asks the question, is it popular? But conscience asks the question, is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor polite, nor popular -but one must make it because it is right." -Martin Luther King, Jr. |

Hispanic Scholarship Fund Resource for Parents
If you work or volunteer to help Latino youth graduate from college, or know someone who does, please check this out. You can order a free DVD with all the new HSF PSAs promoting the "Your Words Today" campaign. This initiative is directed towards Latino parents to help them support their kids during the college experience. To order, just go to the website, www.yourwordstoday.org Better yet, HSF established this site for public use, so they encourage everyone/org to use the site and materials. Yes, even if you already work for a Latino org that has the same mission as HSF. They really don't want to 'own' this effort. They just want the Latino community to use it.

37th Annual Scamp Camp
The American Lung Association in California invites you to a week-long overnight camp that combines asthma education with traditional summer camp activities like swimming, hiking, and archery. One of the major values of SCAMP Camp is the volunteer medical staff. All volunteers are trained to teach the children proper ways to manage their asthma. The team of medical staff is made up of doctors, nurses, and respiratory therapists from your communities. The medical staff helps the children learn to recognize their asthma triggers, understand their medicine, and how to use their inhalers, develop ways to prevent and control future episodes, and communicate to others about their asthma!
