Annual Breakfast Keynote Speaker Announced
Alex Montoya
Alex Monotya has inspired thousands through his personal story. One of the first San Diegans mainstreamed from special education to an integrated school environment in 1980. A triple amputee from birth, Living his whole life with prosthetics has neither deterred nor discouraged Alex from achieving his dreams. From a young immigrant to the American dream, Montoya overcomes his obstacles with perseverance and a lot of laughter.
Alex Montoya is the Manager of Latino Relations for the San Diego Padres. In that role he is responsible for coordinating the team's marketing and advising on the charitable outreach to the Latino community in San Diego County and Mexico. It is an area Montoya knows well after seven years with the San Diego County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. A native of Colombia, South America he was selected as one of San Diego Magazine's "Top 50 San Diegans to Watch" in 2000.
Alex has appeared in the major motion films Artificial Intelligence and minority Report. A former Olympic Torch Relay carrier, Alex believes in "passing the torch" as a motivational speaker. Despite Alex's underdog situation, he always prevailed. From his tiring trials to become a citizen to fulfilling his dream of working in Major League Baseball. From his days at Notre Dame to his days in Hollywood. Alex Montoyas success is directly credited to his will. And his determined will, as he will tell you, was a conscious choice. He has tracked his life toward excellence, and he hasnt stopped sprinting.
Alex's debut book, Swinging for the Fences: Choosing to Live an Extraordinary Life, was released nationwide by Tate Publishing in October 2008. It is available for purchase on TatePublishing.com and all major book retail and online sites. He is on the advisory board for the Friends of Scott Foundation (FSF), which assists families who are battling cancer. In his personal time, Montoya enjoys reading, avidly watching sports, and will participate in his first San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Marathon relay team in June. |
