Stay after the show to enjoy

a reception with the stars of Culture Clash!

Change has come in America. And nobody shows us the intimate details of a more perfect union than the Culture Clash trio with their out of the box comedic AND dramatic entertainment. For over two decades this ensemble of writer-actors have practiced the art of theatrical-social anthropology by digging deep into America's culture to formulate their outrageous brand of "performance collage."

As in all of their memorable comedic sketches, the characters in AmeriCCa are adapted from real interviews with people from across the U.S. who live radically diverse lives. The troupe's signature use of satire, vaudeville, mime and spoken word dramatizes the voices of the socially invisible and the New Americans, offering a fresh examination of cultures in flux. From Cuban exiles and Haitian immigrants in Miami, to a Puerto Rican political activist in Manhattan, to commies and dot-commers rubbing elbows in San Francisco's Mission District, to expatriates in Tijuana and Ugandan cab drivers in San Diego, these are unforgettable characters who will leave you gasping, laughing and cheering.

Sundance

WHAT IS SUNDANCE: Sundance is a ceremony carried out by a number of Native American tribes in Turtle Island (The American Continent). This ceremony is one of many important spiritual ceremonies followed by Native Americans though out the year. Each tribe has its own distinct rituals and methods of performing the dance, but many of the ceremonies have features in common, including dancing, singing, praying, drumming, the experience of visions, fasting, and in some cases piercing of the chest, arms or back. The purpose of being pierced is to sacrifice one's self to the Great Spirit (God), and to pray while attached to the Tree of Life, a direct connection to the Great Spirit. The Red Stone/Running Deer Sundance in Casa Blanca, Arizona is held every year in honor and prayer for our Children.

Support Family Helath Centers of San Diego

Family Health Centers of San Diego's dental program is proud to be a finalist for a $20,000 sponsorship from Tom's of Maine.

NOW WE NEED YOU!

Please take a moment to vote AGAIN for us at http://www.tomsofmaine.com/community-involvement/dental-clinic-vote.aspx?proposal=22

Only the top five vote getters will receive funding.  You can vote once every day from now until March 12th. If we win, we will use the money to establish a treatment fund for our most vulnerable patients.  When we identify a patient in a desperate financial situation with emergency dental needs, we will use the fund to cover all or a part of their treatment.  In these challenging economic times, we are seeing many patients that have lost their jobs or had their hours cut back and they need a little more help than usual.  Please help us continue to provide the care they need by voting today.

Unforgettable Prom Night

It's that time of year again! On Friday, April 23rd, Friends of Scott is hosting its 4th Annual Unforgettable Prom Night!
Prom is often a highlight of a teenager's high school years. It's a "can't miss" event, but kids with cancer often do. So for one special night, children undergoing cancer treatment from Rady Children's Hospital and Kaiser Hospital or cancer survivors, are treated like stars. The teens will be all dolled up-the guys in tuxedos provided by Friars Tux and the girls in gorgeous gowns provided by the Princess Project-with flowers from La Mesa Florist.

Fancy limousines will escort the teens from their homes throughout San Diego County to the San Diego Hall of Champions in Balboa Park. All of the Prom activities, from the music and food to the goodie bags and photo booth, are all donated by many wonderful community agencies and individuals like you. Your support is greatly appreciated!

If you would like to make a donation to support this year's Unforgettable Prom, please visit our website.

NALEO NEEDS YOUR LEADERSHIP

Right now, only 10% of the applicants for the new Citizens Redistricting Commission are Latino, in a state where Latinos are 20% of the registered voters and over one-third of the population. With a state as big and diverse as California, who draws our state's political boundaries and how those boundaries are drawn will shape the future of this state.

That's why on behalf of The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund, we are asking you to apply to serve on the new Redistricting Commission. This new Commission will redraw California Senate, Assembly and Board of Equalization Districts. You can also help spread the word about this critical opportunity to California's Latino civic leaders.

We need to make sure that Latinos are well-represented on this new and influential Commission, and you can take three steps to help us:
Become informed: Go to www.LatinosDrawTheLines.org to learn more about this critical process.

Apply for the Commission now:  California's Bureau of State Audits is managing the selection process and has created a special website for applicants. You can only apply directly online at www.WeDrawTheLines.ca.gov.

Encourage your colleagues, friends and family members to apply:  You can help spread the word by circulating this e-mail widely to your professional and personal networks.
For more information contact Rosalind Gold, at rgold@naleo.org or 213-747-7606, ext. 4420.

Remember time is running out - the deadline for applications is February 12, only two weeks away.

Audrey and Frank Peterman were unfamiliar with the National Park System. As the result of their eventful 12,000 mile cross-country trip through 40 states, they are now considered as 'expert' environmentalists on the public lands system.

On February 9, REI will be hosting Audrey Peterman for a presentation and book signing event at the REI store in San Diego. Her presentation promotes the rich heritage of the national parks that includes the Buffalo Soldiers, the Jones Family of Biscayne Bay, and the "Sable Guides" of Mammoth Cave.

Camp Lockett, located in the Milquatay Valley of San Diego County's Campo and in Kumeyaay traditional territory, was home to the Buffalo Soldiers? In 1942, the 10th Cavalry Regiment (the famed Buffalo Soldiers) moved into Camp Lockett to replace the 11th Cavalry Regiment that had been converted into an armored unit. The Buffalo Soldiers were all black, segregated units of the US Army formed after the Civil War for service in the West. Despite second-class treatment, these soldiers made up first-rate regiments of the highest caliber and had the lowest desertion rate in the Army. Often given some of the worst assignments, the Buffalo Soldiers persevered. The 9th and 10th Cavalries developed into two of the most distinguished fighting units in the army. The Buffalo Soldiers are committed to educating our community on African Americans contributions in the United States Military, and to raise the awareness of the Buffalo Soldiers and their important accomplishments, the San Diego Chapter does readings at local schools and organizations, color guard presentations, and participates in community events including parades, western fashion shows, western dances, etc. They sponsor an annual youth college scholarship fund, awarding one or two scholarships to deserving students
