The Joy of Governance: It takes more than a recipe
 
Register today for the 6th Annual USD Nonprofit Governance Symposium to catch the Early Bird price!

Over the next few weeks, we will be emailing you with information about what you will learn at the Nonprofit Governance Symposium. This week features words of wisdom from Liz Shear.

"All chefs started their careers slicing and dicing. Using Dennis D. Pointer's Navigating the Boardroom: 40 Maxims - Things You Must Know and Do to Be a Great Director, we will explore how to get on board quickly so that you can maximize your board service. You will leave wearing a chef's hat.

Volunteer Management 101
Finding Fun in the Fundamentals
January 14th & 15th, 2010

We'll take a look at:
� The basics of volunteer management that lead to retention: planning, recruitment, placement, orientation, training, supervision and recognition
� What changes are taking place in the profession? How can I keep my program current?
� The role of the volunteer manager
� The ultimate toolkit-what's in it that can help you make your volunteer programa success

Sound Interesting?
� This training is a basic introduction for those with limited experience in the field
� AND it's a refresher course, if you're a veteran who needs some new inspiration
� This interactive and participatory training will offer you the critical skills you need to ensure the
success of your program AND YOU'LL HAVE FUN!
� You'll receive a binder of templates and resources, lunch each day and a certificate of completion

The Greater Golden Hill CDC (GGHCDC)  will make the holidays brighter for residents of the Golden Villa Apartments through its annual Holiday Toy Drive. Now through December 22nd, the GGHCDC  will be accepting new, unwrapped toys and gifts for children through the age of 17. Our goal is to collect gifts for 60 children valued between $10-$20 dollars. 17th Annual San Diego Latino Film Festival
 

~ Celebration of over 150 Latino Film, Special Guests  and Live Entertainment Scheduled for March 11 - 21, 2010 at UltraStar's Mission Valley Cinemas at Hazard Center ~

 

MEDIA ARTS Center San Diego announces the arrival of the prestigious and internationally recognized San Diego Latino Film Festival, now celebrating its' 17th edition. Close to 20,000 festival attendees, over 150 various award-winning movies from Latin America, multiple guest actors, recognized filmmakers, industry professionals, artists, and musicians for all ages and tastes will gather from March 11 to March 21, 2010 at the UltraStar Mission Valley Cinemas Hazard Center in beautiful San Diego, California. 

 

This year SDLFF is much more than just film screenings. SDLFF 2010 will celebrate showcases of Cine Mujer, Cine'Mation, Cine Gay, Borders on Films, Venezuelan Cinema; Annual Free Student Outreach Screenings; Tributes, Reel Talk Workshops; parties, live music, and much more. We have just been informed that new AFL-CIO President, Richard Trumka has agreed to come to San Diego on January 6th.  There will be a rally and press event at 10:30 a.m..  He is on the west coast promoting our national Jobs initiative, but has agreed to allow us to focus the local event on unveiling our "Local Jobs" platform.  We will need a huge turnout for the rally.
