Marge Cole is a Native Californian from LA. After high School in Pomona, she graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a BA in History and English. She earned her Master's in Education at Syracuse University and returned toCalifornia in 1970 to teach high school Social Studies and English.
After serving as school administrator in 1985 she was a high school
principal and Director of Student Services before retiring in 2004.While
serving as high school principal in Santee, Marge joined the Santee/Lakeside
Rotary Club in 1996.
She was selected Team Leader for a Group Study Exchange (GSE) Team to
Central Mexico in 2002. This one-month trip turned her life in Rotary
around; she became more active in her Club and served as President in 2002-03. She also became more involved at the District level and served as GSE Chairman for the District in 2003-04; District Rotary Foundation Chair
from 2004-07. She was selected District Rotarian of the Year in 2005. She
has hosted many GSE Team Members over the years and served as Host
Counselor for an Ambassadorial Scholar from South Africa.
In January 2007, she travelled with a group of Rotarians from our district to
District 9200 (East Africa) to visit and dedicate a Matching Grant Project.
She participated in a Volunteer Service Grant in Mombasa, Kenya where she
did professional development activities for the staff in a high school. She
also traveled with a group of Rotarians from D5340 to D4400 (Ecuador) in
October 2007 to visit a number of Matching Grant projects there and also
collect new projects at their Project Fair in Quito.
Marge has served as District Trainer and District Literacy Chair and our
Districts representative to the LA International Wide World of Books
campaign that collected books for children. She serves on other community organizations: including the Board of Directors for Rolling Readers, she reads to three 3rd grade classrooms at Euclid Elementary School weekly. She is a Docent for the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego and enjoys traveling, golf, reading, attending plays and the symphony.
