9th Annual San Diego County Women's Hall of Fame
CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
Who are the women that have dedicated their lives to making a difference within the San Diego community? Who are the women who have quietly and selflessly made efforts to empower other women in our community? Five women whose life work has made a significant and positive impact on the San Diego community will be selected for induction into the 9th Annual San Diego Women's Hall of Fame on March 27th, 2010 at UCSD Price Center Ballroom. March is Women's History Month. The call for nominations for 2010 will close on October 31st. One woman in each of five categories will be chosen from those nominated by the community. Those to be inducted into the Women's Hall of Fame will be selected by members of the four Hall of Fame hosting partners. These include The Women's History Museum, the San Diego County Commission on the Status of Women, the UCSD Women's Center and the Department of Women's Studies at SDSU. The Categories for Nomination are as follows: 1) TRAILBLAZER - A woman who paved the way for other women or was first in her field. 2) EMPOWERER OF WOMEN - A Woman who has significantly inspired the people of San Diego County and improved their lives. 3) ACTIVIST / CREATOR OF STRUCTURAL CHANGE- An activist, leader or professional who has created structural change and shifted our way of thinking and doing. She is a courageous woman from any profession or community whose efforts resulted in improving women's lives or status. 4) BRIDGE BUILDER OF MULTI-CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING- A multi-cultural competent who is integrally involved in building bridges, coalitions or understanding within the communities of San Diego County. A multi-cultural individual is defined and knowledgeable of and sensitive of diversity, multiculturalism and social justice. 5) HISTORIAN / CULTURAL GUARDIAN - A woman who has kept her culture and history alive within her community. She may act as a mentor, counselor, grandmother, godmother, or other significant role. Those chosen will represent and reflect the diversity and geographical areas of our community. In common, they have all selflessly and courageously contributed greatly to the San Diego community and the world at large. Their lifetime work and achievements have improved the lives of women and citizens of San Diego County. Their accomplishments left lasting impact on others and our community. They are the unsung heroes of our time whose stories can be inspiring to all of us. This group of 5 Inductees will join 42 other women already inducted into the Women's Hall of Fame every year since 2002. The 9th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on the UCSD Campus on March 27th, 2010 at the culmination of Women's History Month. San Diego Latino FIlm Festival Poster Competition
San Diego Latino Film Festival Poster Competition Call for Entries Media Arts Center San Diego is now accepting submissions for our new Film Festival Poster Competition. The deadline for all submissions is November 25, 2009.
Media Arts Center San Diego will be presenting the 17th Annual San Diego Latino Film Festival (SDLFF) 11-21, March 2010. This prestigious and internationally recognized festival celebrates films and videos by Latinos and/or about the Latino experience, screening over 160 works from across Latin America and throughout the United States. For the first time, the Festival is putting a call out to artists and graphic designers for its annual poster artwork. Artists and Designers are encouraged to submit work for the Film Festival Poster Competition by November 25, 2009. If your poster design is selected, you will win USD$1,000 and your design will contribute the look of the Festival by appearing on Festival posters, invitations, t-shirts, and much more, providing significant and immeasurable exposure to your artwork/design. Finalists will be announced in mid-December, and the winning poster will be revealed in January 2010 in San Diego. All posters that advance to the final round will be exhibited during the 2010 San Diego Latino Film Festival, March 11-21, 2010.
