REI Offers Free Bilingual Nature Walk Series
Series is designed to introduce families and groups to neighborhood open spaces SAN DIEGO, Calif. - REI Outdoor School will host free bilingual (English and Spanish-speaking) neighborhood nature walks. The series are designed to introduce and inspire community members to connect with our natural resources. Participants will have the opportunity to discover and enjoy the natural areas in their community, learn about native plants, animals and invasive plants. These trips are easy with no special equipment is required, they are moderate in their distance - perfect for families or groups. Participants are encouraged to bring their own water, sunscreen and wear comfortable shoes. The nature walks will take place: Daley Ranch Tuesday, September 22 from 5:30-7 p.m. 3024 La Honda Drive Directions: I-15 to El Norte Parkway. Go East (about 4 miles). Make a Left to La Honda Drive. REI will have fun games and giveaways. Participants are encouraged to register in advance by calling 619.591.4924 or emailing msolisc@rei.com. Space is limited.

We hope last year's Preparate conference was a rewarding experience that gave you new ideas for inspiring your Latino students. Through your participation, the annual Preparate conference will continue to empower educators to meet the needs of a growing Latino student population. We encourage you to share your knowledge by submitting a session proposal for Preparate 2010. The strength of the conference stems from sessions developed and led by dedicated educators and professionals like you. Please consider submitting a session proposal that showcases trends, new initiatives, effective strategies or best practices that affect your Latino students. CSUSM Arts & Lecture
Tijuana writer and cultural critic Heriberto Y�pez will present at Cal State San Marcos on Tuesday, September 22nd, at 5.30 in MARK 125. Mr. Y�pez is one of the most accomplished figures among the younger generation of poets and narrators at the turn of the century in Northern Mexico. Mr. Y�pez is author of essays (Made in Tijuana, Tijuanolog�as, El imperio de la neomemoria), novels (A.B.U.R.T.O., El matasellos, 41 cl�sets, Al otro lado), as well as poetry and short stories. He has collaborated in the photobook and chronicle Here Is Tijuana! with Fiamma Montezomolo. He has translated into Spanish works by William Blake and by adoptive Sandiegan Jerome Rothenberg. He teaches philosophy at Universidad Aut�noma de Baja California. Mr. Y�pez will read from his writings and discuss his critical and theoretical work on literature and culture of the border region. This event is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC and is organized by Arts & Lectures and co-sponsored by the Psi Epsilon chapter of Sigma Delta Pi (the Hispanic Honor Society). REI Gear Bank has Arrived in San Diego
The REI Gear Bank is designed to help provide an introduction to outdoor recreation to youth who have not yet had a wilderness experience. The program provides quality gear to these youth to ensure that their first experience in the outdoors in positive, so they can focus on having fun. REI would like to assist youth focused non-profit organizations in planning outdoor adventures by offering camping essentials free of charge! The Gear Bank includes equipment such as, tents, pads, sleeping bags, stoves, packs, trekking poles and binoculars. Should your group be interested in applying to participate in the REI Gear Bank program, please read the following carefully: -The REI Gear Bank is designed to be used by youth-focused non-profit groups. We will use our own discretion in determining whether your group qualifies for this program. -There is a limited amount of gear in the Gear Bank program, please call REI Chula Vista (619.591.4924) to check availability. -The Gear Bank program is located at REI Chula Vista store. FREE Massage Therapy Offering for Pregnant Women A massage therapy continuing education program is looking for mothers-to-be to participate in a massage practicum. Women will receive massage therapy from a practicing massage therapist learning this specialty, under the supervision of prenatal massage specialists, Carole Osborne. The workshop, Pre- and Perinatal Massage Therapy, under the sponsorship of Body Therapy Associates is holding this practicum on the afternoon of September 26, 2009.
