Become a Summer Camp Counselor for Children with Disabilities
SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - Every summer, The Arc of San Diego puts together their Camp-A-Lot & Camp-A-Little programs. These are traditional summer "live-in" resident camps designed for children and adults with developmental disabilities that are held in San Diego County. The camps offer everything from hiking to campfire programs to dances and talent shows, but they can't operate without volunteers. The Arc of San Diego is currently looking for camp counselors for their programs that go all summer. However, volunteers don't necessarily need to work the entire summer; one and two week commitments are also available.
Openings for camp counselors are for individuals at least 18 years old with a clean record and there are also limited positions available for counselor aides, for those individuals who are between the ages of 15-17 years old. This is the perfect opportunity for anyone who has ever thought about volunteering or becoming a camp counselor. Room and board are also provided while at camp. This year's season starts July 7, 2009 with training and runs through August 20, 2009.
The Arc of San Diego is the largest service provider to people with disabilities in San Diego and the State of California. Founded in 1951 by a determined group of parents, The Arc of San Diego now serves children and adults with disabilities at 22 locations throughout San Diego County. Applications are currently being accepted for the 2009 summer camp season. Prior to training & orientation, there is an application process that includes an interview, background check, and fingerprinting. For more information on dates, training or to set up an interview, please call (619) 685-1175 ext. 255 or e-mail pals@arc-sd.com. |

Restore Public Access to Friendship Park
Target: Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano
California State Attorney General Edmund G. Brown, Jr., together with local, state and federal elected officials, has joined some 70 community-based organizations and over 130 community leaders in a joint letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, calling for the restoration of routine public access to Friendship Park, the historic location overlooking the Pacific Ocean where for generations people have gathered with friends and family at the U.S.-Mexico border fence. Please join us and sign this letter to Secretary Napolitano.
Friends of Friendship Park has set a goal to raise $2,500 by September 1. Please help us reach our goal of $2500 by the end of August! Even a small donation will help us a lot. Part of this funding will cover legal costs for our friend Dan, who bravely stood in front of the bulldozers to stop the construction of the border wall. Thank you for supporting friendship and binational cooperation in our borderlands. Sincerely, Friends of Friendship Park To learn more about the goal or donate, follow the link below: http://apps.facebook.com/causes/180793?m=2f1b4dd3

Announcing the Pass Along Program
Rebuilding Together San Diego (RTSD), a 501 (c) 3 non profit receives donations of brand new building and home improvement materials from various sources, including substantial donations from the Home Depot Framing Hope Program. RTSD uses these donations on our home and community facility renovation projects, however, often we receive more materials then we can use at any one time. RTSD is committed to the improvement of our communities, neighborhoods and homes of low income homeowners. Through the "Pass Along Program" we work with other non profits to distribute these materials for use in their own facilities and/or give it directly to low-income and/or out of work families who have the capability of fixing their home, but do not have the funds to purchase the materials. We have items such as windows, doors - interior/exterior, security doors, tile flooring, door knobs/locks, garden hoses, shelving, lighting fixtures, and much more. Inventory changes weekly. Our inventory is emailed bi-monthly to registered program participants. All materials will be made available free of charge except for a small handling fee of 10-20% of fair market value of the items. This handling fee covers the overhead and administrative costs of the "Pass Along Program". Many organizations are eligible to participate in the program: Charitable, tax-exempt non-profit agencies with 501(c) (3) status and other institutions such as schools, religious institutions that either have a 501(c) (3) and/or are incorporated, and qualified end users who meet RTSD qualifications. We understand that not everyone is in a position to receive and house a volume of merchandise and this is why we want to support our fellow community partners with this benefit. For more details on registering to become involved in this program and begin receiving a direct benefit of donated materials contact us at (619) 231-7873 or rtsd@rebuildingtogethersd.org.
