Presentation (5/6/09):
Model UN Team - 2008, Hoover High School
Inspiring San Diego Students to Explore the World

The 2009 District 5340 Model UN Program was held during the weekend of April 4-5, 2009.  This program gives high school students an opportunity to learn about the United Nations, international relations and to participate in a "simulated" United Nations.  The students debate resolutions related to current issues, learn conflict resolution skills and assume the role of diplomat for their assigned country.   Team Advisor, Jonathan Burgos and students from the Hoover High Team, coached by our own Club member, Everado Aguilar will share their experiences.
SPECIAL GUESTS: Group Study Team (GSE)-Ghana
Members of this year's GSE Team from Ghana will be joining us for lunch and sharing information about their country and visit to the US.

Service Above Self Video Contest

Recently our District, District 5340 sponsored the first ever Interact Club-Service Above Self video contest.  The contest was open to any public or private high school student, 13 to 18 years of age, residing within the boundaries of Rotary District 5340, comprised of San Diego, Imperial and Southeast Riverside counties.   Students were asked to create a 30 second  Public Service Announcement (PSA) that incorporated Rotary's "Service Above Self" motto. Prizes up to $500.00 in cash were awarded to the top videos.  The District received 24 submissions and announced the winners at the District Conference this past weekend.

They showed the winning videos during Friday night's dinner and everyone was amazed at the quality of the videos, creativity/concept of each video and how effectively the students highlighted "Service Above Self".

Below are the links to the winning videos.  Take a few minutes to watch them, it's worth it. Enjoy.
