3rd Annual Friends of Scott Prom

Friday, April 24th at 6:30 p.m., Hall of Champions, Balboa Park

For one unforgettable night, the children are treated like movie stars - it's an evening to simply forget their battle with cancer. Last year, more than 175 teens with cancer enjoyed a special evening of dancing, refreshments and red carpet treatment. Almost everything for this magical night is donated. Here's how you can be part of the special evening-please help spread the word that we need gently used prom dresses! Those formal dresses that girls wore once and now hang in the back of closets will give such pleasure to young girls with cancer. We also need accessories like purses and wraps to help the girls keep warm. A $20.00 gift card from Payless Shoes allows one girl to buy a pair of party shoes to match her outfit.
Here are some dress donation guidelines: Dresses should be:
from 2002 to present, clean and on hangers, prom dresses, formal gowns, or fancy party dresses, received by April 1, 2009

For more information, please contact Deanne Seiler at [email protected] or call 619-741-3871. The Friends of Scott Prom has many unique sponsorship opportunities. For more information, please contact Anna Sciarrino at [email protected]

18th Annual Golden Pyramid

This is a historical time in our country with the inauguration of President Barack Obama and the beginning of his implementation of the "Change We Need" in our country.  The Urban League of San Diego County wants to continue to build on this exciting energy while embracing the national education agenda. On behalf of the Urban League of San Diego County, we cordially invite you to attend our 18th Annual Golden Pyramid Education and Health Expo.  This spectacular event will take place at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at the Spreckles Organ Pavilion, in Balboa Park.

Once again, our civic, and community organizations will gather to witness the initiation of some of the county's brightest urban youth into the Golden Pyramid Scholars honor society.  This prestigious association will draw county-wide attention to youth that demonstrate outstanding achievement in school, in their community, and in their life.  Students who achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or greater and testing scores at or above 50% in reading, language arts, and math will be honored at this event.  In addition, we are presenting an opportunity for education and health organizations to host booths providing resource information for youth and families attending the event.

Should you have any question or concerns, please contact Kea  at (619) 266-6265 or [email protected].  We look forward to seeing you there as we continue to spread the gospel that "Achievement Matters" for our youth while "empowering communities and changing lives".
