Volunteers Needed for Transalation Project
The National Lawyers Guild (NLG) seeks your assistance with their Jailhouse Lawyer's Handbook. It is a pro se guide for prisoners: the first of its kind and still the only one like it in the United States. The Handbook is frequently the most important resource for prisoners who need to seek redress in the courts and who do not have access to counsel or robust legal research tools. NLG needs volunteers to help translate it into Spanish (and hope to eventually do other languages). Interested volunteers are welcome to translate as much of the Handbook as they would like, but NLG would be thrilled to find folks to just do a page or two each. NLG frequently receives requests for the Handbook by Spanish speakers, and are unable to help. For them, the US prison and legal system is confusing and difficult enough and the NLG is launching this project to address this gap in legal aid. To view the guide in PDF form and see what exactly needs translating, visit www.jailhouselaw.org
If you or someone you know is interested in helping please contact Mchel Angela Martinez, the NLG's national student organizer, at studentorg@nlg.org . | |
