2009 San Diego Multicultural Festival
Celebrate cultures from around the world at the free 11th annual San Diego Multicultural Festival on Saturday, January 17, 2009, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown San Diego. Attendees will enjoy storytellers, musicians, activity booths and a variety of food, merchant, informational and educational booths representing local to international organizations. Students from four local schools will construct Global Villages, which showcase international customs and cultures they have studied in depth. Youth Empowerment Summit

An opportunity for Youth: to talk straight about important issues; give input to the Commission on Gang Prevention and Intervention; to be celebrated for their involvement in their community
The Commission on Gang Prevention and Intervention is collaborating with San Diego City Schools, San Diego County Office of Education, Tariq Khamisa Foundation, The Children's Initiative to have a Youth Empowerment Summit at the War Memorial on January 30th, 2009. Organizations and Schools are responsible for the transportation of youth to and from the free event. Lunch will be provided. Thank you all for your interest and support!
We want your input and ideas on some important topics. Your attendance at this event will help us gather important information. You will meet a lot of youth interested in making a difference in our community and have fun. The purpose of the Youth Empowerment Conference is to build on the assets in youth, families, and communities in order to prevent violence. This half day event will encourage youth to openly discuss key issues in the community and allow youth to discuss strategies that increase their feeling of empowerment and safety within our community. These strategies will be included in the Commission on Gang Prevention and Intervention's discussion on its Strategic Work Plan for 2009.

Community Artist Connection Television Show

We will be conducting two television interviews on this date and continuing to train activists in running their own TV shows.
During our first show, Walter Davis will be hosting and interviewing Laura Thompson, Producer of this show. We will focus on Laura's plans for the show, and she'll reveal a partial guest line-up for future shows.
The second show Laura Thompson will host and a surprise guest will be interviewed. The guest has played an important part in our community by providing art/photography and music to raise funds for San Diego's homeless youth.
Expect to be at the studio between 6 PM and 10 PM in El Cajon....(you must call Laura to RSVP and directions at 619-750-6205).
We are extending the invitation to anyone interested to FREE training as a camera operator, assistant director, floor director, sound engineer, set designer, graphics generator, webcast director, and producer. Normally, you select one position and remain on it for the entire evening. You can change positions during subsequent shows.
The training is free. We only ask that you commit to helping during subsequent shows. You are always welcome to attend just to observe and be an audience member. Our objective is for you to become the producer of your own show, at some point....or.....become a crewmember on one of our other shows.
We request you call for reservations and information in advance, if you are unable to call until the day of teh show we may not be able to get back to you. Additionally, we will not be able to respond during the taping of the show.

"In Our Lifetime- 2009 Inaugural Gala Celebration"
Mark the historic triumph of president-Elect Barack Obama
The Urban League of San Diego County along with the Rotary Club of Southeast San Diego, Black American Political Association of California, and the San Diego Chapter of the NAACP will host an Inaugural Gala Celebration to mark the historic triumph of President-Elect Barack Obama.
The black-tie event will take place on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, from 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm at the new Joe & Vi Jacobs Center located at 404 Euclid Avenue San Diego, CA 92114, in Market Creek Plaza. Guests will enjoy dinner, dancing, entertainment, a live video feed from Washington, DC and remarks by some of the nation's most prominent leaders at this exclusive event. Free Rubios Fish Tacos
There's another reason to cheer after the San Diego Chargers' victory over the Indianapolis Colts this weekend. Rubio's Fresh Mexican Grill plans to treat guests to a free fish taco on Wednesday from 2:30 p.m to close. The restaurant's owners said they would give the tacos away if the Bolts beat the Colts in the wild-card game on Saturday.

Obama Inagural Live Broadcast at the San Diego Public Library
Due to strong community interest in the Inaugural of President-Elect Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States on Tuesday, January 20th, the San Diego Public Library will host several exciting events to mark that momentous occasion. The Library envisions San Diego residents from all walks of life attending the many events, fostering fellowship and entering in dialogue with one another each other.
The community at large is invited to attend some of the most imaginative inaugural events occurring in the San Diego area at Rancho Bernardo, Malcolm X and City Heights, three of the largest branch libraries in the system that have partnered with a diversity of community groups, including artists and performers, to mark the historic day.
Rancho Bernardo Branch Library at 17110 Bernardo Center Drive, San Diego, CA 92128-2002, will broadcast the televised inauguration live and replay the recorded version soon after for those who missed it. For more information call 858-538-8163.
