The National Latino Research Center (NLRC) and the Visual and Performing Arts Department at Cal State San Marcos present, "North County" the play tour, the first community-based theater production portraying Latino history and contributions in North San Diego County. North County, a play about a "side of life in North San Diego County rarely seen or discussed," written by José Cruz González and originally directed by CSUSM Professor Judy Bauerlein, is inspired by the Al Norte de San Diego Latino Oral History Project, a project founded in 2004 by Arcela Nuñez-Alvarez to document Latino history in San Diego. The play has been remounted by Fernando Vega to tour local high schools and community centers. The "North County" play is touring local high schools and community centers at no cost to the host. We are specifically targeting North County high school students to make this important educational opportunity accessible to as many students as possible in the immediate local community. All performances are free to the public. To host a performance at a high school or community center, the NLRC will work with each site to identify an adequate space at the site, select a date and time, and prepare flyers for outreach and information dissemination. We specifically recommend this performance to AVID, Migrant Education, and ESL students. For more information on how to schedule a performance, please contact Gloria Santos at 760.750.3500 or gsantos@csusm.edu

In addition, all Abuelitos interested in telling their stories are encouraged to participate.
