Parent Institute for Quality Education featured at White Houses Initiative on educational Excellence for Latino/Hispanic Americans
San Diego, CA – The U.S. Department of Education has invited David Valladolid, President and CEO of the PARENT INSTITUTE FOR QUALITY EDUCATION (PIQE) to be a major speaker on Parental Engagement on Thursday, September 11, 2008. Mr. Valladolid will join leaders in education at the Summit on Education Reform & Hispanic Education Attainment Washington D.C. as part of the White House initiative on educational excellence for Latino/Hispanic Americans. Mr. Valladolid, upon accepting the invitation, stated "I am delighted and honored to be a speaker at the National Educational Summit. The future of our children is a stake and we must engage all concerned leaders in serious discussions of how we can apply the best learning strategies to address the educational needs of our nation's children." According to the White House invitation, "the summit is a substantive event that will focus on the promising practices that various initiative partners are employing to improve education outcomes for Latino/Hispanic students. Speakers and summit attendees will represent a wide cross-section of partner organizations and stakeholder groups, including representatives from parent and family involvement groups; community-based, nonprofit and faith-based organizations; Latino/Hispanic serving schools and school districts; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) associations; the corporate sector, state and federal government; and the business community. The keynote speaker will be Margaret Spellings, Secretary U.S. Department of Education and Honored Speaker Anna Escobedo Cabral, Treasurer U.S. Department of the Treasury. Other speakers including David Valladolid are: Charles Hiteshew, Chief Operating Officer America's Promise Alliance, Maria Lopez, Director of Development EL VALOR, Eduardo Cancino, Superintendent Hidalgo Independent School District, James Montoya, Vice President The College Board, Jon Winn, Chief Program Officer National Math Science Initiative and Mike Acosta, Director FUMEC Border Office, UTEP Office of University Relations University of Texas at El Paso. Dr. Vahac Mardirosian, PIQE Founder & President Emeritus, responding to the White House invitation and focus of the summit stated "Our personal history with over 400,000 parents served by PIQE in the last 20 years, gives further credibility to the concept that we can change the future of our youth. When parents become partners with their school community in the preparation of youth for the future labor force that will require a post-secondary education—a powerful connection is achieved." Dr. Alberto Ochoa, Chairman of the PIQE Board of Directors and Professor at San Diego State University also affirmed that "PIQE has proven itself as a premier model program for parent involvement in the education of their children and must be considered as a proven educational innovation for replication across the nation."
