History in Action: ChicanoPark Recognized in German Online Article
January 4, 2008
Thanks to the hard work of Tommie Camarillo and the Chicano Park Steering Committee the history and murals of ChicanoPark in San Diego, California are now available online in the German language. It is the first and only article that is written in the German language about the history and murals of ChicanoPark.
Once again ChicanoPark is being recognized in Europe and across the world. This recognition is a result of collaborations and communications between Tommie Camarillo, CPSC and Dr. Dipl.-Ing. Mag. Michael Falser Institut fr Denkmalpflege und Bauforschung (IDB) Department Architektur - ETH Zrich (Swiss Federal University of Technology (Department of Buidling Research) at Zurich.)
This accomplishment serves as one more indicator of the international artistic importance and value of the murals as well as the history of struggle it represents for the Chicano-Mejicano-Latino community. The online article and photos can be accessed at the following link:
It is the hope of all involved with ChicanoPark that individuals and universities in other countries follow the example and work of Dr. Dipl.-Ing. Mag. Michael Falser and write similar articles about ChicanoPark in their respective languages. It is anticipated that Chicano Park will soon be carried in a French language online site.
For more information on ChicanoPark, the Chicano Park Steering Committee and the upcoming Chicano Park Annual Celebration send an email to Tommie Camarillo at:
Please give wide distribution to this notice on the latest development on Chicano Park.
Otra vez, congratulations y felicidades. Tommie, gracias for sharing such important information.

3rd Annual Friar Fest Volunteers Needed
The Padres are hosting the 3rd Annual Friar Fest the weekend of Jan. 26 and Jan. 27, 2008. The purpose of the event is to promote Padres baseball, the players, the season, etc. It will also once again be a vehicle to raise money for the Padres Foundation through our annual Garage Sale, the sale of used and new jerseys, equipment, bases, baseballs, pants, socks, photos, banners, caps, photos, etc.
I am hoping that Padres staff (and family members) may be interested in helping with the Friar Fest Garage Sale again this year. The hours of operation are 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday yet I will ask that volunteers arrive a little early to get a short "orientation". This is considered a "community service project" since the Foundation is a charity, and I am happy to provide letters to that affect for high schoolers and college students as appropriate.
Here are the volunteer windows of opportunity:
Sat., Jan. 26
9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (includes some set-up)
12:00 noon - 3:30 p.m. (includes some clean-up)
Sun., Jan. 27
9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m. (I am asking for an additional hour at the end of day 2 to assist with packing and minimal clean-up).All volunteers will be provided with free admission to the Friar Fest (that's a $5.00 value) and an event parking pass. Please let me know if you, or your family members, are interested in participating and thanks.
Go Padres!
