THE SAN DIEGO & IMPERIAL COUNTIES CAL-SOAP UNIVERSITY/ COLLEGE FAIR OFFERS ONE STOP SHOPPING FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS AND FAMILIES IN THE COLLEGE SEARCH FOR THE BEST FIT
SAN DIEGO - Out of thousands of colleges and universities available for students to attend, how do you find the one that is the best fit? A good place to start is the annual Cal-SOAP University/ College Fair. The event will take place on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at the Scottish Rite Center, 1895 Camino del Rio South, San Diego (Mission Valley). The fair will run from 6:00 to 8:30p.m.
Admission and parking are free! Sponsored by San Diego and Imperial Counties California Student Opportunity & Access Program (Cal-SOAP), the fair will provide contact with more than 100 colleges and universities from a wide range of national and international, pubic and private, historically black colleges and universities, two and four year post-secondary institutions. Students and parents will be able to talk directly with admission representatives about college admissions requirements, the college application process, campus life, major fields of study, financial aid options, as well as pick up admission materials and other helpful literature.A variety of workshops will be offered for the fair, including:
* College Majors, College Degrees and the Top Ten Careers in 2010,
* How to Choose a College,
* The College Athlete,
* Grown at 18...Now what? and
*I'm tired of school...what are my options?

On Justice for Janitors Day, thousands of janitors and community members throughout California stood together to demand justice, dignity and health care in our communities. Since then, hundreds of janitors in San Diego have won the right to a fair process to join the union and are on their way to securing a better future for their families.
But the struggle continues! In 2008 26,000 janitors throughout the West Coast will be fighting for a better quality of life in their contract campaign. Join us as we walk together for justice in our communities!

Final Bow for Expressions of Mexico Gallery
We are sad to say that as of the end of November, Expressions of Mexico Gallery will no longer be opening the doors to our Barrio Logan location.
However, we will still be holding our very last "Dia de los Muertos" traditional display and exhibition as we have every year! This year our exhibition will feature the unique "calacas" and "catrinas" of Carolina Alvarado, as well as the beautiful works of painter Yolanda Romero. In addition, this being our final "Dia de los Muertos" celebration, all other related pieces will be at liquidation prices.
So come celebrate this yearly tradition with us one last time!

News from the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA
FREE Academic Tutoring Every Tuesday
The Jackie Robinson Family YMCA is offering free academic tutoring every Tuesday from 4:30-6:00pm. Tutoring is available in all subjects and for all ages. Tutoring sessions will be held in Jackie Robinson's Cox Technology Center. Tommy Hiller at teacher at Riley School at Riley School will volunteer weekly to provide this service. The Jackie Robinson Family YMCA will be assisting SDG&E in reaching, educating and enrolling qualified limited-income customers in one of our two rate assistance programs. These two programs, California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) and Family Electric Rate Assistance program (FERA), help customer's save money while providing essential energy services for themselves and their families. CARE and FERA eligibility is determined by total household annual income and number of persons in the residence. Rules for participation:
� The SDG&E bill must be in your name and the address must be your primary residence. � You may not be claimed on another person's income tax return other than your spouse. � You may be asked to verify your income. La Voz is a personal e-mail list that Pedro Anaya Jr. has developed over the last 10 years. It consists of over 4,000 contacts that include students, educators, elected offi cials and their representatives, media, organizers and activist, clergy, non-profi t executive directors, and business leaders. La Voz consists of three weekly e-mails consisting of community events, grant and funding opportunities, and job opportunities. The majority of the e-mails are San Diego based but are increasingly becoming more diverse in geographic origin and relevance. The e-mails sent out are done as a free service and are not connected to any particular organization.
