Thank you for considering volunteering as a wish granter with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego and Imperial County! You will help make the wishes of special children who are battling life-threatening medical conditions come true in your local community when you become a wish granter. With a staff of just 10 employees, our mission is only possible with the dedication of our 200+ volunteers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Wish Granters directly involved with the children and families?
Wish granting volunteers have the highest level of involvement with children and their families. They help coordinate all the details of a child's wish in conjunction with the Make-A-Wish staff and serve as a liaison between the family and Make-A-Wish. As a new wish granter, you will receive training to ensure that you are knowledgeable and comfortable in meeting with the children and their families.
Is there a financial expectation of wish granters?
No, wishes are completely funded by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
What is the time commitment expected?
The time commitment for wish granting is 5-10 hours a month depending on the wish.
What is the Wish Granting process?
- Every Wednesday you will receive an email detailing all the wish children who need wish granters.
- Once you pick a wish child, you will work with your partner wish granter and contact the family to set up an interview.
- You and your partner wish granter will then conduct the family interview to determine the child's wish!
- Together with the Make-A-Wish staff, you and your partner wish granter will work together to fulfill the wish.
- Once the wish is ready, you will present all the details about the wish to the child and the family in a fun setting!
What is the application process?
- Submit a volunteer application and two reference letters.
- The Volunteer Coordinator will contact you for a phone interview.
- Upon final approval, complete the fingerprint background check at a LiveScan location. All fees will be reimbursed!
- Attend a one-day (8 hour) Wish Granter training.
- The magic begins! After the entire process is complete you will be helping to make wishes come true.
How do I apply?
We're so glad you asked! To begin the process of becoming a Make-A-Wish Volunteer, please request a volunteer pre-screening form by contacting our Outreach Coordinator, Marco Marques, and providing your mailing address. USCIS Advises Public Regarding Immigration Fraud and Proposed Immigration Reform Legislation
This notice is to inform the public that although the U.S. Senate is debating and considering immigration legislation (S.1348), that bill has NOT passed into law. Legislation must be passed by both the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, and signed by the President, before it becomes law. Information about the legislative process is available from the Library of Congress (http://thomas.loc.gov/).
If immigration reform legislation does become law, U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will advise the public on how to proceed. Until then, individuals should be cautious of any persons, organizations or businesses claiming to assist in applying for benefits under the immigration reform legislation. |

LA VOZ is a personal e-mail list that I have developed over the last 10 years. It consists of over 3000 contacts that include students, educators, elected officials & their representatives, media, organizers and activist, clergy, non-profit executive directors and professionals, and business leaders. The info sent out includes community events, funding opportunities, scholarships, employment opportunities, some editorials, current politics & bills that need support, & volunteer opportunities. The e-mails sent out are done as a free service and are not connected to any particular organization. Most of the e-mails are San Diego based but are increasingly becoming more diverse in geographic origin and relevance. What I sent out is not meant to be partisan but since it is a private e-mail list I reserve the right to be selective on the items I send out in regards to electoral politics. LA VOZ is a volunteer project that I enjoy doing and my way of giving back to our community...I am passionate about connecting our community to resources and opportunities. |
