Message from the Executive Manager

Jerry Leonard
Everyone likes a happy relationship - especially when it helps illustrate the value of what you have to offer! This happened recently when Sand Recycling Ltd., with whom the Centre has been working for over four years [see our Sand Recycling fact sheet], came to us with a plan to clean out the City of Edmonton's melt water collection ponds, which are created by snow dumps. This requires the removal of silt and other solids at a moisture content low enough to allow convenient trucking and handling.

A problem that is like bread and butter to people in the wastewater business. So, since the Centre has access to expertise across the spectrum of waste management, we will be happy to bring the right people together to help optimize the processes that Sand Recycling has been pioneering in this area. Once again the breadth and flexibility of the Centre is proving its worth in developing practical solutions for a sustainable environment!

Regards,

Dr. Jerry Leonard

And the Winners are...
AWTM Draw
From l-r: Sharron Martens, Darryl Seehagel, Del Morrison, Lucy Rachynski

To encourage busy people to participate in the Advanced Wastewater Training Modules (AWTM) survey, respondents could enter a draw for $100 or a free course registration valued up to $350.

Four AWTM Steering Committee members gathered in late summer to draw the winning names--Del Morrison, Executive Director of the Alberta Water and Wastewater Operators Association; Sharron Martens, Supervisor of Training Systems, EPCOR Water Services; and two Edmonton Waste Management Centre of Excellence staff, Darryl Seehagel, Technology Development Manager; and Lucy Rachynski, Education Program Manager.

Geography seemed to affect luck in this draw as both winners were from "hill" towns:
The $100 cash prize went to Hawkeye Hovdestad from Two Hills, and
The course registration went to Brian Davey from Three Hills.

Congratulations to you both and thank you from the AWTM Steering Committee and the EWMCE to everyone who completed the training needs survey.
