Message from the Executive Manager

Jerry Leonard
Six years ago on July 2nd,
I turned up at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre at Clover Bar for my first day of work for the EWMCE. The EWMCE didn't actually exist then, and my job as Implementation Manager, was to bring it into formal being. A lot of water (and wastewater!) has flowed under a few bridges since then, and a lot of people have contributed to creating what is now a vibrant and productive little organization. There is no doubt that we are doing useful things in all of our program areas, but there is potential to do so much more. This challenge will be central to a visioning exercise in which our Board of Directors will be participating before their next meeting.
In preparation for this, it has been instructive for me to reflect on how the Centre has grown and developed over the last few years. Our vision and mission have remained constant and continue to be guiding reference points. Nevertheless, our world in general, and the world of waste management in particular, are continually changing and our development has been shaped to some degree by these changes. Thus, we can expect our development over the next few years to be influenced not only by scientific and technical advances, but also by socio-economic imperatives. I am looking forward to the Board's discussion and, regardless of its direction, I know that the Centre's future will be exciting.

Regards,

Dr. Jerry Leonard
