Message from the Executive Manager

As the EWMCE develops, and its level of activity in all areas grows, there is a parallel need to adjust the way we do business to accommodate this growth.
When the Centre was set up in 2003, we used a volunteer committee structure to oversee the three areas of Research, Education, and Marketing. Back then, there was less going on and, in terms of employees, the Centre was much smaller. I have to admit that there are times when I think somewhat wistfully of those simpler days, but the reality of today's environment means that a different structure is required.
Consequently, the marketing function will now be overseen by our Business Manager (Katrin Hoffmann) and our four established activity areas will be headed by full-time managers. These are: Research, Technology Development and Verification (Darryl Seehagel), Education and Training (Lucy Rachynski), and Advisory Services (Bilgin Buberoglu). We face an immediate challenge of funding and filling the research leadership position but, overall, I am confident that this new structure will provide a robust framework for the strong and continued growth of the Centre. I look forward to working on this growth with all of the Centre's team, our partners, and our growing list of clients.
Regards,
Dr. Jerry Leonard |
Remembering Dr. Charles Labatiuk
It brings us great sadness to announce the passing of Dr. Charles Labatiuk, our Solid Waste R&D Facility Supervisor. Although formally manager with the City of Edmonton, Charles had been a part of the Centre from the very beginning, sitting on the Education, Research, and International committees. He's remembered as a kind and gentle man, whose quiet enthusiasm for his work and for life inspired many of us. On behalf of the EWMCE, our sincere condolences go out to the Labatiuk family. |
