Message from the Executive Manager

As one of our excellent staff pointed out recently, the past month seems to have been one of making and renewing contacts. In Mexico, Darryl Seehagel and I were able to renew some previous contacts and develop a number of new ones. Hopefully, we will see some of them in Edmonton for our conference--Waste: The Social Context '08--in May next year and, with others, we can move forward into cooperative ventures in a number of different areas.
Other international contacts have been active, too, as we have heard from some of our friends in China. Here it seems we're about to enter a new phase of active cooperation and I look forward to more detailed announcements over the next month or two. At home we have continued to meet with a number of companies to discuss and initiate a range of new projects and, finally, our recent Research Day provided us with an opportunity to connect with a whole lot of people who are interested in the research aspect of our activities. However, an equally important part of the day was providing an opportunity for contacts to be made among the attendees. This is an important aspect of a Centre such as ours and, judging from the spirited discussions over coffee and lunch, we achieved a healthy measure of success!
As this is our last edition of E-news for 2007, I'd like to extend warm wishes for your holiday season.
Regards,
Dr. Jerry Leonard, P.Eng., Executive Manager |
