  Gingerbread Cupcakes Recipe

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon of ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 cup (1 stick of unsalted butter)
1/4 cup of water
1/2 cup of packed dark brown sugar
1/2 cup of unsulphured molasses (not blackstrap)
3 large eggs, room temperature
1/4 cup of grated ginger
Lemon Icing
1/4 cup + 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar
2 teaspoons of lemon juice

Combine the sugar and lemon juice together in a bowl and stir until smooth. Allow to stiffen up a bit for 4 minutes. Spoon over the cooled cupcakes and allow to harden.

Method
1 Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a small bowl, melt the butter and water together in the microwave, covering the top with plastic wrap.

2 Sift together the flour, salt, baking soda and dry spices in a bowl.

3 Beat together the molasses and brown sugar until smooth. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating for 30 seconds between each.

4 Beat in the flour mixture slowly until just incorporated. Add the butter mixture and the grated ginger and beat until smooth. Batter will be runny.

5 Spoon into cupcake papers, about 3/4 full. Bake for 12-14 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool for a minute to set before moving to a wire rack to fully cool.

Who says homes aren't selling?
This new marketplace has us all guessing as to what will happen next. I can only speak for myself and the homes I stage but my market is still rocking, sometimes too much so. I stage a house and before the folds can fall out of the shower curtain it seems I am packing it back up because it is under contract.

I worried that my track record would go down the tubes with the economic downturn but so far, so good. I have a 100% success rate for homes that employ Signature Staging. I am happy to report that my staged properties are still selling quickly. It's business as usual for me.

There is still a strong market for homes that are priced accurately and look great. So if you have a home to sell or for sale there is no time like now to consider staging. You can hire out the entire process including the furniture or you can have a DIY consultation and we will walk you through the entire process.

Staging continues to sell homes in spite of the slow market and the holiday season. So don't despair, stage!

Seasonal Staging Tips

The holiday season is most everyone's favorite time of the year. It takes us back to traditions, family and shifts our focus totally toward home.

There is a myth that no one shops for a home during the holidays. I am here to tell you that just is not true. In my previous professional experience as an agent I have written a contract on Christmas Eve.

It is true that there are fewer buyers out but the ones that are out and shopping are serious. I had 2 of my staged homes sell during the Thanksgiving break. So don't make the fatal mistake of letting your home go during the holiday season unless you have the luxury of waiting for a sale.

Set the scene for celebration but take a light hand with decorations. In most homes all bets are off come Christmas time and the brighter and bolder are acceptable when they might ordinarily be deemed tacky. That won't work to your advantage when your home is on the market.
  • Dress the mantle with evergreen
  • Do a tree in white lights
  • Hang a festive but understated wreath on the door and use uplights to illuminate it
  • Use a centerpiece with candles on the table.
  • Do not clutter every surface and every room with Christmas scenes

You will also want to be careful about the room arrangement. When we make room for our tree it usually displaces several large pieces of furniture. A room filled to overflowing with too much furniture is the kiss of death. Be sure to check the traffic flow through out your spaces.

I am wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a contract that will move you and yours forward to your next home.
