OIG Recognizes Louisiana SMP Efforts
"In only a few months of work, the Senior Medicare Patrol has reached out and educated hundreds of senior citizens on how to detect possible fraudulent billings, scams and other abuses. The result is we now have a statewide network of people who are acting as the eyes and ears of the Medicare program. With this network, we've developed strong leads to follow, and been given access to the evidence needed that can lead to the arrest and conviction of suspected fraudsters," said Mike Fields, Special Agent in Charge of the Dallas Regional Office of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Inspector General.

Greetings!

Sign up... SMP volunteers come from all walks of life. Many are currently working in Eldercare Agencies such as Councils on Aging, SHIIP and senior resident communities. Others are retired professionals who want to learn more about Medicare fraud and to share that information with their peers.

Volunteers play a vital part in the SMP mission to empower seniors to prevent healthcare fraud. To find out when a volunteer training session will be held in your area, contact Julie Mickles at 877-272-8720.

SMP Announces Graduates
SMP TrainingWe are proud to announce the graduates of our first two SMP Foundations Training Sessions. Graduates, who have attended all three training modules and passed the assessment test, are now qualified to participate in all aspects of SMP beneficiary education.

Graduates also have access to a multitude of materials on Medicare fraud, errors and abuse available through the National SMP Resource Center.

All Foundations graduates, who will volunteer their time to empower seniors to prevent healthcare fraud, will receive a Certificate of Completion from the Louisiana Attorney General's Office in recognition of the integral part they play in fighting Medicare fraud in our state.
