Keep track of your data usage, or it could cost you!

As technology changes we are using more and more data. Nearly all of our rate plans have limits to data usage just like a cellular plans have a limited number of minutes. When you go over your allowed data usage you'll be charged $1.50 per GB extra with Neighbourhood Wireless.

TIP #1

Switch off multi-media content when web browsing.

TIP #2

Disable auto updates.

TIP #3

Close any open applications that are not being used.

TIP #4

Download updates using a free Wi-Fi hotspot like one's available at most Starbucks locations.

TIP #5

Limit your YouTube watching, do you really need to watch that video clip?

TIP #6

Limit your online gaming such as Farmville. They use a lot of transfer data because of their graphical nature and interactive features.

TIP #7

Password protect your wireless router so only you have access to your internet.

TIP #8

Reduce Twitter and Facebook usage. These consume unnecessary data, especially since it manually refreshes your feed every few seconds.

TIP #9

If you're sharing a broadband connection with your family or roomate be aware of their surfing habits and how much their downloading.

TIP #10

What type of email do you use? Web-based email like Hotmail counts as surfing the web when you check your email. Where software solutions like Outlook, downloads all the emails to your computer - attachments and all - whether you open them or not.
