With internet becoming more and more popular as we head towards the future Identity Theft is on the rise. These are a few tips that will help prevent you from becoming a victim of Identity Theft.

1. Guard your financial informationOnly provide credit card or bank account numbers when you are paying for something.2. Keep your social insurance number (SIN) confidential
3. Keep your postage mail safe 4. Memorize your passwords and PIN numbers
5. Don't send credit card information by email, phone or postage mail
6. Check your credit report regularly
7. Never throw out important financial documents into trash Shred before you can discard them. 8. Never carry your SIN or credit card in your pocket, creating easy access for thieves
9. Choose an account password that is not obvious and change it periodically
10. Make a copies of both sides of your license and credit card. This way you will have all of the account numbers and phone numbers for the things in your wallet in case you need to call and cancel the cards. Keep the photocopies in a safe place. Make sure to tell someone you trust where they are kept in case of an emergency.

13. Never respond to an email or pop-up message that asks for your personal or financial information
14. Keep track of your financial accounts

18. When setting up a wireless network in your house make sure to use the security feature to prevent people from joining
19. Try to avoid entering confidential information on a public computer 20. Watch out for over the shoulder snoops at cafes, schools or on a airplane 21. Use anti-virus and anti-spyware software
22. Don't click on links that offer free software 23. If a website tells you that you need to download viewing software to see its videos, DON'T DO IT.
