Happiness Abounds on Graduates Day
Each year, Yemin Orde provides hundreds of graduates with scholarships to universities and other institutions of higher education. On January 3, 2012, proud graduates of Yemin Orde Youth Village returned to receive recognition in a special ceremony attended by all of the children and other friends. Friends of Yemin Orde welcomes Charlie Gwirtsman as its new Co-Chair of the Board of Directors. Charlie will partner with current Board Chair, Michael Frieze, until January 2013, when he will assume sole leadership of the board. Charlie previously served as FYO's National Campaign Chair and oversaw a successful national emergency campaign that raised more than $5 million for wildfire relief and recovery. Read On... |

Friends of Yemin Orde welcomes Marcie Zelikow, a Los Angeles-based Jewish community activist and philanthropist, as its new National Campaign Chair. Marcie has served on Friends of Yemin Orde's Board of Directors, and was instrumental in building a strong base of support in the Southern California region.

The Village's Bat-El Schmueli to Visit New York and Florida

Bat-El Schmueli is the Volunteer Coordinator at Yemin Orde Youth Village. Bat-El will travel to New York and South Florida in mid-January to meet with friends and supporters of Yemin Orde Youth Village and Yemin Orde Educational Initiatives. Bat-El will also speak at local synagogues about the Village and the many opportunities available to show support for the children.

| Fire Recovery Challenge Grant: Goal Met!

We are pleased to report that Friends of Yemin Orde has met a $360,000 challenge match from an anonymous donor! The match was aimed to help offset millions of dollars in rebuilding costs for fire damage sustained at Yemin Orde Youth Village. This challenge match was the first grant designed specifically for the fire emergency fund. Funds are still needed as the Village faces a $1.5 million funding gap to fully complete its Master Plan for new construction and design elements at Yemin Orde.

Karen has worked in the non-profit industry for 30 years, primarily in the Jewish community. She is inspired by the devoted staff in Israel and the passion of the Friends of Yemin Orde Board of Directors. "To me, Karen's bond with Yemin Orde and all it stands for is in the realm of the predestined, said Chaim Peri. "On an emotional level, Karen regards every child whose life is touched by Yemin Orde as her own."
