Green River Cicadas - 7 year cycle
In 2003 the Green River experienced what many local guides consider the best year of cicada fly fishing ever.  That year in June there were 3 separate broods of cicadas hatching at the same time.  We had tons of size #2-4 Mondo Cicadas, along with size # 8 brown/tan cicadas on the B section, & the typical size # 10 Green River cicadas were everywhere.

  Cicada
Cicadas typically emerge on yearly cycles of 3, 7, & 17 years.  This year we are in a 7 year cycle, so 2010 has the makings for incredible fishing!  Weather and frost can deter the cicadas from emerging so we are not making any promises of incredible hatches, just juicing you up with our optimism.

2009 Highlights

Mike Stiff DoubleSeveral 24" + trout caught on dry flies!

Awesome streamer fishing in the Fall

Higher flows, big fat trout, awesome hatches...

Blue Wing Olive fishing was incredible...
Late March through early May blessed the trout on the Green River with blanket hatches of BWO's.  This set the stage for great fishing the rest of the season.

Mormon Crickets came out in droves in late June and early July.  If you have never seen one, we would say they look like giant non-flying grasshoppers.  They range in color from black, red, brown, to green, or any combination.  Their legs are about 2 inches long and their body is as fat as a mans thumb.  They migrate long distances and eat everything in their path.  Our guides had the time and place of their river crossings dialed in, and gave our clients some unforgettable days.  There were times when the river looked liked popcorn popping on the water from the hundreds of size #2 Mormon Crickets being chomped.  The Mormon Cricket migration is a very random occurrence, but hopefully we will see them on the river again soon!
