Toronto, 29 September 2011: Canada's Association of Retail Travel Agents (ARTA Canada) announced today that it has e-mailed thousands of Ontario travel and tourism officials giving ARTA Canada's assessment of Tim Hudak's exceptional performance in the Ontario Leaders' Debate earlier this week. The association reminded the industry that a Hudak Government was exactly what Ontario's travel businesses need to be successful and profitable during these challenging times.

Hudak's changes for small business focus on elimination of red tape and a 30% reduction in regulatory burdens. A small business "Bill of Rights" would assure that businesses have a say in their future and can collaborate with the Government on regulations and legislation which affect them and the economy.

"This is exactly the type of refreshing approach that is so sorely needed in the business sector. For us, the regulations imposed on travel retailers have gotten so out of control that they are draining valuable resources from infrastructure, personnel, and capital investment. Change is needed, and Mr. Hudak is the singular candidate committed to business empowerment and regulatory relief", said ARTA Canada President Bruce Bishins, CTC.

In 2008, total tourism receipts in Ontario reached over $22 billion. Tourism in Ontario employs over 300,000 and is the largest single employer of young workers. Every $1 million spent by tourists creates 14 jobs and generates $553,400 in wages and salaries. Ontario’s travel deficit was $2.7 billion in Q1 2011, an increase of 3.8% from Q1 2010.
