ARTA Canada Applauds Air Canada's Enhanced Direct Connect

Toronto, 12 May 2011: Canada's Association of Retail Travel Agents (ARTA Canada) applauded today's announcement that Air Canada has enhanced and released a new version of its pioneering AC2U direct connect API. The latest rebuild leverages XML standards and the Distribution 2.0 shopping, booking, and administrative features espoused by the Open AXIS Group. ARTA Canada, and its U.S. counterpart, ARTA, are allied members of the Open AXIS standards setting organization.
"The enhanced AC2U is welcome news indeed for travel agents, technology companies, distribution systems, and any other party which wishes a more intimate, content-rich, and cost effective way to sell Air Canada and its most complete array of products and services. We are fully supportive of Air Canada's and all Open AXIS carriers' efforts to bring alternative distribution tools into the agency marketplace. We will do everything possible to assist our members and all travel agencies in Canada in better understanding these important new options", said ARTA Canada President Bruce Bishins, CTC.
Bishins participated earlier this week in a review and focus group looking at the graphical desktop which agents might use in a Distribution 2.0 and direct connect environment. He indicated that travel agents were beginning to take greater interest in these tools and that there was far greater appreciation of the expanded content and more efficient booking workflow once agents actually saw and used a "non-green-screen" travel management system.
