Majority of TICO Survey Respondents Says
TICO Board Needs Restructuring and
Favours Increasing Elected Board Members

ARTA Canada Vindicated in Pushing for
Changes to TICO Board Composition

Toronto, 05 April 2010Canada's Association of Retail Travel Agents (ARTA Canada) announced its vindication today with the results of a survey conducted by the Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) regarding stakeholder satisfaction with the current structure and composition of the TICO board of directors.

With only 37% of the survey's respondents favouring the current board composition top-heavy with patronage appointments by industry associations, the overwhelming majority of respondents (63%) favoured some alternative structure, with 56% of those respondents proposing to double the elected industry board members (18.9% of respondents) or triple the elected industry board members (12.2% of respondents) or fully elect the industry board members (24.8% of respondents) of TICO.

"This goes to the heart of the core position we took at the September 2009 TICO Annual General Meeting where ARTA Canada was vehemently opposed to decreasing from three to two elected board member seats in favour of a ministerial appointment to the board which hasn't even been made. It also suggests that ACTA's proxy 'landslide' to reduce elected representation was likely based on a lack of transparency and a less than clear detailing of the board composition question. As we have learned from the past, it's all about 'the question'. Ask the right question, and you'll get the right answer", said ARTA Canada President Bruce Bishins, CTC.

TICO will continue to solicit input regarding the board restructuring at town hall meetings scheduled to begin in London, Ontario on 15 April 2010.
