ARTA Canada Reminds Ontario Travel Agencies
to Designate Manager of Record with TICO
Toronto, 29 June 2009: ARTA Canada reminds Ontario travel agencies to secure their grandfather rights by assuring that they have notified the Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) of the current and correct supervisor/manager of record. Individuals fulfilling this role and duly designated with TICO on/before 30 June 2009 will be exempt from TICO's Education Standards Exam for Supervisors/Managers.
It should be further noted that while such a properly designated individual would be exempt from the supervisor/manager exam, if said individual also sells travel, offers to sell travel, or provides travel advice to consumers, the individual would still have to take the travel counsellor exam even though he or she would be exempt from the supervisor/manager exam.
A recent advisory from TICO was incorrect in that it implied that all supervisors/managers must take the travel counsellor exam. However, this is only true if the supervisor/manager also sells travel, offers to sell travel, or provides travel advice to consumers.
ARTA Canada also reminds all individuals required to take the travel counsellor exam that the exam deadline is on/before 30 June 2009.
