Interim Report Number 2

The TICO Public Inquiry Task Force wishes to provide all TICO Registrants, both travel agencies and wholesalers, with this second Interim Report. ARTA Canada is coordinating and providing administrative support to the Task Force and has been asked to distribute the following report on behalf of the Task Force:

1. On 16 December 2008, the Task Force sent TICO Registrar Michael Pepper a letter asking TICO to reply to various questions regarding the One Step Travel matter. The Task Force asked for a reply from TICO on/before Monday, 05 January 2009.

2. On 19 December 2008, Mr. Pepper advised the Task Force by e-mail that he would discuss the Task Force's request with the TICO Board of Directors at its meeting on 27 January 2009.

3. On 29 January 2009, the Task Force wrote to Mr. Pepper asking for the status of its letter of inquiry sent on 16 December 2008 and any position taken by TICO at its board meeting pursuant to the Task Force's request for a reply to its letter. TICO did not reply to this follow-up request.

4. On 03 February 2009, the Task Force met to consider next steps given the lack of any reply from TICO since 19 December 2008, including the lack of reply to the follow-up request sent to TICO on 29 January 2009.

5. Having had no reply from TICO since 19 December 2008, on 03 February 2009, the Task Force agreed to send a letter to Minister Harinder Takhar of Ontario's Ministry of Small Business and Consumer Services, the Ministry which oversees the operations of TICO. The letter outlines the concerns of the Task Force and seeks a meeting with Ministry officials as soon as possible.

6. On 10 February 2009, a reply from the Ministry to the Task Force was received stating that the Ministry required time to research the Task Force's concerns and that the Ministry would respond thereafter.
