Citing the results of research provided by Manufacturing Insights, the article suggests that manufacturers are typically the best candidates for optimization tools due to the amount of capital invested in fixed assets.
 
While Manufacturing Insights' ideal profile is valid, we feel there are other profiles to include.
 

The New Normal Will Dictate Lower Inventories

If data coming from electrical distributors is an indication of a larger trend in inventory levels for other industries, it would be that reduced inventory investments will become the new normal for 2010. This is supported by examples from distribution giants such as Grainger, WESCO, and Baldor. Each has reduced their inventory from between 6% and 10% this past year.
