Since 1997, the total number of Hispanic business owners has increased by 82%. Of the 1.4 million companies owned by women of color in the United States, Latinas control 39 percent of these businesses.  As a result of the increasing Women Hispanic business owners in the Central Florida in 1997, the Hispanic-American Professional and Business Women's Association (HAPBWA) was founded as a non-for profit organization dedicated to helping promote career driven women to market themselves better in today's world. The organization was envisioned as a mechanism to bring Hispanic professionals and businesswomen together to set strategies and create a women's network in order to advance their professional and business interests. In 2010, HAPBWA Foundation was created to support the educational interests of women of all ages and was developed to help promote professional development and to provide that education through various venues.

FCSW Award-Winning Fact Sheets

The Florida Commission on the Status of Women is proud to announce four new fact sheets. After receiving an award for our current eleven fact sheets from The National Association of Commission for Women Outstanding Achievement Award, we could not resist the urge to work on some new fact sheets.   Recently added to our library of fact sheets are the following:

  • Bullying in Florida: A Silent Epidemic
  • Gestational Diabetes: A Woman's To-Know Guide
