ˇ ˇ ˇ Kids Day 2010 ˇ ˇ ˇ

Hopefully, your child was one of a thousand or more GMCM captivated on Saturday, May 15 during our third appearance at Kids Day on Burlington's Waterfront. Children just old enough to stand, toddlers, grade-schoolers, and even teenagers were enthralled by our Take Apart Table, Flower Creation, Building Block Table, and ever-popular Singing Trees. "We love Kids Day!" said Mia Graham Beer, GMCM Board President. "Fun, excitement, and creativity are in the air. GMCM volunteers thrive in this environment as they watch all the different ways children explore, create, and learn through play." |

ˇ ˇ ˇ Location Updateˇ ˇ ˇ
At a March Strategic Planning meeting, the GMCM Board of Directors and volunteers agreed that we must expand our site search area beyond Burlington. Since then, our Site Committee has explored several potential sites on the major arteries leading into Burlington and is encouraged by the options available. How do you feel about where GMCM is located? Email us at info@gmcm.org or post a message on our Facebook page. Your input is vital. |

ˇ ˇ ˇ ACM Annual Conferenceˇ ˇ ˇ
For the sixth year in a row, GMCM sent delegates to the Association of Children's Museums Annual Conference. This year's conference was attended by GMCM Board President, Mia Beer and our newest Board member, Gabrielle Smith earlier this month in St. Paul, MN. The theme of the conference was Invest EarlyˇInspire Growth. Mia and Gabrielle came home invigorated by their networking with other proponents of play, as well as the success of recently opened museums in Delaware and Phoenix. Vermont remains just one of FIVE states in the nation WITHOUT a children's museum. To learn more, visit www.childrensmuseums.org. |

ˇ ˇ ˇ Welcome Aboard!ˇ ˇ ˇ
GMCM is pleased to welcome Gabrielle Ratte Smith to the Board of Directors. Gabrielle brings years of experience in education and wellness programs, as well as grant-writing and management. She lives in Essex with her husband, Michael and 8 1/2 year old twins, Christian and Caroline. "I am very excited to be a part of GMCM. My children grew up visiting a children's museum at least once a month when we lived in Wisconsin. The museum provided a low-cost, interactive, hands-on, fun play experience for my children. Having a children's museum in Vermont will bring a unique resource to children and their parents and caregivers." |

ˇ ˇ ˇ Inspired Learningˇ ˇ ˇ

Experiences at children's museums often provide inspiration for things children can continue at home. Our Take Apart Table at Kids Day is a great example. With appropriate safety gear (goggles are a must!) and parental supervision, taking apart an old telephone or toaster can provide hours of entertainment and learning on a rainy summer day.
