· · · First Night Fun · · ·
Chinese New Year is right around the corner, but we're still basking in the glow of our celebration of play at First Night 2010 on New Year's Eve. Our spacious and central location in Memorial Auditorium's Annex gave our Exhibit Committee ample room to flex their creative muscle and design some stellar activities for the nearly 1000 people who rang in the New Year with us. "It's events like these that give our community a glimpse of what a children's museum could offer here in Burlington," commented Mia Graham Beer, GMCM Board President.

· · · Support the Need to Play!· · ·
Proponents of play from the child development website Zero to Three emphasize that play is critical to the development of early science, math, and literary skills. As they so aptly put it, "play is the true work of childhood." Hiring an Executive Director, developing exhibits, and participating in special events all require funding. Pledges are also greatly appreciated to help secure a building. In the coming weeks, please watch for our annual appeal letter or take a moment to give today! Every donation, big or small, makes a difference. You can help in other ways too: spread the word about GMCM by forwarding this newsletter to friends and family; volunteer your time and energy on a GMCM committee; or become a fan of GMCM on Facebook. |

· · · Let the Games Begin!· · ·
Cabin fever setting in? Shake it off and harness the Olympic spirit to create your very own family Olympic Games. Have fun brainstorming events such as the Balloon-Between-the-Legs Race or the Balance a Marshmallow on a Spoon Race - anything inside or outside that everyone in the family can do. Conclude your games by awarding medals created from cardboard covered in colored foil or painted gold, silver or bronze. |
