Are winter heating costs burning up your wallet?

Heating costs account for nearly two-thirds of annual energy bills in most Cape Cod homes. The list below can help you reduce your energy bills this winter. And to help you save even more this month, we are offering BIG SAVINGS Coupons specifically geared toward your efforts!

1. Energy efficient heating equipment will help you stay comfortable, and save on your energy bills at the same time. If your unit is more than twelve years old, a new system can save 25% to 30% in energy costs through increased efficiency.   E.F Winslow can assess your heating needs, and present a free estimate recommending the finest system for your home.  We feature brand name equipment from quality manufacturers such as Amana, Weil-McLain & Buderus.  
 
2. Preventative Maintenance will extend the life of your heating system by 20% and decrease the risk of untimely breakdowns. And, regular system tune-ups can reduce your utility bills by ensuring the system is running at peak efficiency.
 
3. Install an Aprilaire whole-home humidifier to reduce dry throats and skin, static shocks, keep furniture and your home from drying out and increase energy efficiency. A home with moisture feels warmer than a dry home, even at lower temperature settings.
 
4. Control your home's temperature and save money with an Aprilaire Programmable Thermostat. Through proper use of pre-programmed settings, a programmable thermostat can save you about $150 every year in energy costs. Plus qualify for the ENERGY STAR®-qualified Thermostat $25 Mail-In Rebate before April 30, 2008.
 
5. Utilize or install ceiling paddle fans in your home.  By running a ceiling fan slowly the warm air will keep circulating, reducing the amount of time your furnace runs.
