It's a palm tree but not any old palm tree. This is the Talipot palm ( corypha umbraculifera ) and, with heights up to 25 metres, it's one of the largest palms in the world. It also bears the largest cluster of flowers on a single stem - 6 to 8 metres long. This remarkable palm flowers only once in its life, when it is 30 to 80 years old, and dies after fruiting. |

Greetings!
It's the end of January already and what a hot, wet  and sometimes shaky summer it has been so far. Awoken by a noisy earthquake at 4 am this morning I spared a thought for Cantabrians who are frequently getting rudely shaken in the wee small hours. After a great holiday break we are back into it here in the office. A bit tough some days when the sun is shining outside and still many people on holiday casually walking Napier's central city. We have a great line up this month. Enjoy!
