Greetings!
I wonder
how many trees have been sacrificed with people jumping on the Kiwi Saver
bandwagon, it seems that every time mail lands in my pigeon hole there's a
stack of paper with either schemes or employer information from the IRD. It is incredible
just how much direct mail we receive these days and I am sure many of you
simply throw it out.
We had a
crack at direct mail last year with great success - in fact the inertia from
nothing to something for our directory was a result of a very successful
campaign. This was recently recognised at the Nursery and Garden Industry Association awards by winning Best Direct Marketing Campaign, we were also
awarded finalist for Best Website. While we are thrilled with this success I am
always conscious of the waste incurred by this form of marketing, which is
where websites and quality opt-in emails will increasingly be the norm.
 If you
enjoy Groundwork and know of a friend who might like it too - please let them
know about us by forwarding this email - or using our tell a friend option.
There is always the chance to win half a Kilo of freshly roasted Hawthorne
coffee.
This week A
Gnomaly gives a young lad some great news, Sandra continues her series on
tropical flavor, Wally and Tod give some advice on enjoying the fruits of your labour and I plug an ethical finance
organisation which my late father helped found many moons ago - oh and dont forget the million tree's for New Zealand coupon at the bottom of this email.
What do you think he should spend the money on? Fire us an email with your suggestion - we will publish the funniest ideas in the next issue...A Gnomaly

Tropical Flavour - Part Two
Focus on foliage - In my last column Palms featured as the signature plant for subtropical gardens. From tall vertical varieties to bold clumping varieties, they grace the skyline with their striking beauty.
Palms play a star role in a subtropical garden, but there are also many other trees, both flowering and evergreen, shrubs, leafy perennials, bromeliads and colourful climbers to accompany them in the creation of a subtropical garden. In this weeks column, the focus is on foliage.

The Food Chain
If we want better health, we have to grow at least some of our own home grown vegetables and fruit without using any chemicals. This is easy even if you do not have much in the way of garden space for growing healthy vegetables in. Containers and especially polystrene boxes with a depth of 180mm or more are ideal to grow in. Bung a few holes in the base for drainage and fill the tray to near full with any good compost available from a centre. Mix into the compost a couple of handfuls of clean top soil (chemical free if possible) or even better a similar amount of worm casts. Read full article... |
