Greetings!

I am having my first holiday since launching the website – it is our first birthday this week and the year has seen rapid growth of the website, our users and online community. When I say a "holiday" it is a bit of a busman’s holiday really. I am at the Ellerslie Flower Show getting my hands dirty at our debut Exhibition Garden.

Landscapedesign.co.nz Exhibition Garden Receives Merit Award!

At 12 noon on Monday 13th there was a mad scramble amongst Exhibitors to gather our tools and leave our sites as the judging panel commenced the difficult task of selecting this year’s winners from all the wonderful talent on display! And yesterday evening after the official opening of the show, at the exclusive Premiere Garden Party, the winners were announced. We were very pleased to receive a Merit Award for our garden – a landmark for this quickly expanding business, and a fitting “First Birthday” present!

We would like to say a huge “thank you” to all of the people who worked so long and hard over grueling 14- hour days and in all weathers, to help me realize my design concept – any volunteers for next year? Congratulations too to all the other winners!

Finished - in the nick of time!

The exhibition garden

Often I might lead into a story by stating there was a break in the weather so I had a chance to get my laptop out and write a newsletter. But the weather has been very hot and we have all had to don hats and sunscreen. What did happen was a power cut, which held us up a bit. But with help from the team from Land Creations, we were able to place the massive Macrocarpa beams to create our outdoor room. As you can see in this photo of the finished garden, they are simply huge. We only just managed to get the roof on before the plants arrived.

 Frenetic activity
 The excitement is building

The excitement is building. There has been frenetic construction activity and event organising all week and traffic is beginning to increase throughout the show grounds. Everyone is hoping the weather will stay fine for the next fortnight, but who knows with this subtropical Auckland climate? While the power was off I had a quick wander around and took a few images of gardens being built.

 Architrim

First up was Architrim who have been busy for the past three weeks building their Exhibition garden. Architrim is a company that makes textured architectural features. Here are a couple of the Architrim guys standing beside one of the pillars they were installing in their garden.

 Watch this space

It is always great to see the enthusiasm of young designers. The garden in this photo has some clever design elements using water. Designer Matt McIsaac (center) says water will cascade thru the agave plants and down the wall. I'm looking forward to seeing the result.

If you are coming to the show please come and introduce yourself. Our location is EG 9 - Exhibition garden 9 – you won’t have trouble finding it. We’re right in front of the Rose Entrance. We’re looking forward to seeing you here!
