“Everybody talks about the weather but nobody does anything about it” Mark Twain

With the recent spate of wild weather I felt compelled to write something weatheresque, and also introduce several new additions to the website.

As well as a new look and feel on the website, we have expanded our service to visitors by partnering with several other quality websites to bring you new services and features. Of course, in keeping with our tradition we have chosen to partner with New Zealand websites. Read on for more.

As the effects of this winter trickle into our pockets and evaporate like a weekly shopping budget in the produce department, it’s a good time to introduce a new resource page on the site that may inspire some of you to take matters in your own hands!

Incredible edible image
Q: How can you save money, add value to your garden, send children to school with fresh fruit and reduce your stress levels?

A: Plant edible plants in your garden, involve children in the planting and care process and best of all take advice from our new resource page from incredible edibles.

Having fruiting plants in your garden is a reality with incredible edibles who continually develop and market an exciting range of unusual fruiting plants that look great in any garden. The new edible plants page on the landscapedesign.co.nz website gives you a taste, links to a great wealth of ideas and information, and tells you where to purchase.

Why waste your money on so-called fresh imported ‘Kiddie Pack’ oranges at $4 a bag or ‘Kiddie Pack’ mandarins at a whopping $6 a bag when you can have fresh fruit in your own garden pot or container year after year - for a fraction of the cost and more pleasure than ordinary fruit. For those of you in cooler climates there are always alternatives so check out incredible edible range and see for yourself.

weatherstatoion
Introducing our nationwide weather page! This new feature gives you access to up-to-date forecasts for your region and the nation. You can access the weather station for free 24/7 and I suggest you bookmark the page for daily reference! There is also a new community weather forum where anyone can offer advice on frost prevention, flood survival, and in warmer months on watering tricks and techniques to help your garden flourish throughout every season.

newswire logo
Introducing our new news page! Check out the latest top stories from Newswire. This is a 'live feed' and is constantly being updated throughout the day with breaking news from New Zealand and around the world.

Newswire.co.nz is an independent online breaking news agency delivering the latest news, sport, weather and more.

Straight lines
You don’t leave price labels on your clothes so why leave them on your plants?

REMOVE all tags from your plants - these are for identifying the plants in the nursery and are unsightly in your garden. If you want to remember the name of a plant then staple the label in a scrapbook and make a note of where it is in your garden. Observe the plant and why not try remembering it? Look at the foliage, the flowers and distinctive features. You will be surprised how careful observation for a few moments can make a name stick in your mind.

Straight Lines - No excuse for the wonk factor

If you are trying to achieve a straight line in your garden whether it is a hedge or a path – always use a tight string line or straight edge. Working to a straight edge leaves no room for wonky excuses. Crisp lines in a garden add the ‘X’factor!
The long awaited new-look website is being launched as I write. It's is very exciting for the team who have been consumed by this over-haul for several weeks now. The finishing touches are now being made before we can finally flick the switch on all pages, but you can preview the new look on our homepage.

The site navigation is also being improved so it's even easier to find these new resource pages and new features like the news & weather. We are dedicated to keeping this site fresh and up- to-date and the new site experience will make it even easier to access the wealth of resources New Zealand has for your slice of paradise.
