As the smoke from early autumn clearing wafts into the neighbour's washing, it’s a good time to highlight information about consumer and legal rights. In this issue we introduce our ‘Consumer Online section’ with relevant information related to boundary fencing; resolving disputes, and your rights as a consumer. We also introduce our free forum - it's a space for you to discuss your landscaping problems and challenges, ask questions, and offer answers and advice to others in the landscaping community.

Consumer Cropped
We are pleased to share this information from Consumer Online, the website of the New Zealand Consumer's Institute Inc, an independent, non-profit organisation established in 1959 with the sole aim of getting New Zealand consumers a fairer deal. You may have seen CEO David Russell in the media commenting on consumer issues and problems. Be sure to have a look at their website and consider the benefits of a subscription.

The information we provide from Consumer Online is intended to be helpful to all our visitors so check out what they have to say about boundary fencing, resolving disputes with your neighbours and on hiring a landscape professional...

Forum image
Our discussion forum is now open! We designed it for you to ask questions related to your gardening and landscaping projects; you can post advice for other people's challenges, and start a general discussion with like minded people and professionals about current issues. Illustration not actual salad ! Ingredients
  • wedge of parmesan for shaving
  • 1 cup shelled walnuts
  • 8 thins slices prosciutto
  • 3 ripe pears (still firm and crisp)
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

Method Shave the parmesan with a potato peeler onto a piece of kitchen paper. Heat a non-stick fry pan and toast the walnuts gently for a minute or two until they are fragrant. Remove from the heat and roughly chop. Toss the prosciutto into the hot pan until it just starts to crisp, set aside. Slice the pears thinly, discarding the core, mix the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, sea salt and pepper in a bowl and then toss the pear slices and walnuts in the dressing. Arrange pears and walnuts on salad plates and scatter the parmesan on top. Top with crispy prosciutto.

Thanks for the great support you have given us over these early months; it has been wonderful to receive all your feedback.
