 Are you ready for fall semester to begin? A lot of changes, from office locations to procedures and new activities, are taking place at LMC, so be sure to read this issue all the way to the end.

Important Dates      
  • August 17 -- Fall classes begin
  • August 17-30 -- Late enrollment on WebAdvisor or in person with late add code
  • August 30 -- Last day to add full-semester classes
  • August 30 -- Last day to drop full-semester classes for full refund
  • August 31 -- Last day to drop full-semester class without a "W"
  • September 1 -- College closed, no Saturday classes
  • September 3 -- College closed for Labor Day Holiday
  • September 14 -- Last day to request Pass/No Pass (P/NP) on courses marked SC (student choice)
  • September 14 -- Last day to submit early spring 2013 graduation application to receive early registration appointment for spring 2013

We've moved!  

Have you noticed all of the empty offices on the third floor of the College Complex? In preparation for third and fourth floor remodel, all Student Services have either moved or will be moving in the near future.

 

The following services have moved to locations on the second and third floors of the College Complex:

The Scholarship Office has moved to PS2-23 in the Office of Financial Aid.

 

The Transfer Center will remain in Room CC3-434A for now, but will move to a new location in the late fall or early spring semester.

 

Services that moved last academic year will remain where they are during the remodel. These include the Office of Student Life, now located in GA Building across from the Child Study Center, and the Office of Financial Aid, located in the PS Building outside the cafeteria by the lake.

Admissions and Records Updates

 

Graduation Updates 

Students who plan to complete all of their academic requirements by the end of the fall 2012 semester may submit a graduation application now. Please log into WebAdvisor to run a "Program Evaluation" on your intended major prior to submitting your application for graduation. Program Evaluation can be found under the Academic Profile tab in WebAdvisor.

 

Spring 2013 Graduation Applicants 

If you are completing your requirements in the spring 2013 semester, you may submit an Early Graduation Application and receive an earlier registration appointment for spring. This opportunity may be used one time only. Complete graduation information

Don't Pay Twice for Parking!

 

Fall parking permits are now available online through InSite/WebAdvisor. On August 27th, Police Services will begin issuing parking tickets to vehicles parked on the Pittsburg Campus without fall semester permits. Permits are not required at Brentwood Center. Semester permits are $40 for autos and $25 for motorcycles and mopeds. Parking fines are $40, as well. Don't pay double for parking -- order your permit now!

Financial Aid News  

There will be no appointments or drop-ins from August 2nd through August 24th. All Financial Aid staff will be engaged in processing applications during this time.

 

 

New Financial Aid Regulations  

New regulations regarding the Pell Lifetime Eligibility Limit and Ability to Benefit are in effect and may affect you. Details can be found on the Financial Aid home page.

 

New Online SAP Workshop

Beginning fall 2012, all students on suspension from Financial Aid must complete an online SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress) workshop. The fall 2012 online workshop instructions will be posted on the Financial Aid Suspension Workshops page Monday, August 13th.

Financial Aid Lab Hours

The Financial Aid Lab can assist your with:

  • Obtaining a PIN
  • New FAFSA or Renewals
  • New E-mail Access
  • Adding School Code
  • Web Advisor for Financial Aid Purposes

The lab, located in the Financial Aid Office, PS2-27, is open:

  • Tuesdays, 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Cal Grant update  

Cal Grant Deadline September 2, 2012

The September 2nd deadline is designated for students that will be attending a California Community College (CCC) during the 2012-13 academic year. To be considered for this award, you must complete the following requirements. A 2012-13 FAFSA must be completed, along with your certified GPA verification, by the deadline. You must also be enrolled in a California Community College (CCC) for the fall 2012 term by the September 2nd deadline.

 

Cal Grant GPAs will be accepted only if certified by a school electronically or on the paper GPA Verification form. No transcripts will be accepted. 

Scholarship Update

 

The Los Medanos College Scholarship Office has moved! Our new location is PS2-23 in the Office of Financial Aid.

Mustang Madness Week

 

Mustang Madness, Friday August 17 - Friday August 24

Mustang Madness is a week of festive activities to welcome our new and continuing students back to LMC!!! Mustangs show your pride! Join us for Mustang Day on Tuesday, August 21st in the outdoor quad from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Find valuable information from LMC Student Services departments, academic programs, student clubs and a variety of colleges. Free hot dogs, games and prizes! Mustang Day is sponsored by the HSI EXITO Grant, LMCAS, and Student Life.

Join the LMC Student Government!

The Los Medanos College Associated Students (LMCAS) has positions open for student government senators and representatives.  Join the student government and help plan fun events, provide valuable services to students, and, most importantly, be the "voice" of your student body.  Fall application deadline is Monday, September 24th at 5:00 p.m. Weekly meetings are held Mondays from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in L106. Apply now.

 

Inter-Club Council Meetings

Weekly ICC meetings start Monday, August 27th from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in L106. ICC is the coordinating body for all clubs and organizations on campus. ICC promotes engagement in community and college activities.

 

Student Club Orientation

Orientations are scheduled throughout the first few weeks of each semester.  Clubs chartering later in the semester will need to make an appointment for an orientation. The deadline to complete the club charter process is Monday, October 8th. All club orientations will be held in Student Life Conference Room GA-5. Student Life BBQ Days

Join us on Wednesday, September 5th from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the Student Life Office for a barbecue. This is a monthly event that will occur the first Wednesday of the month. Then write "BBQ" on your calendar, first Wednesday of every month for the rest of the academic year!

 

Blood Drive

Student Life and Blood Centers of the Pacific will be hosting a blood drive on campus on Thursday, September 18th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in L109. IMPACT: LMC Student Leadership Retreat Be a leader!

The LMC Student Leadership Retreat is an annual leadership development event open to all students on the LMC campus. Through workshops, speakers and fun activities, students gain insight into their personal leadership styles, meet and connect with other LMC student leaders and gain essential tools to be leaders in their clubs, programs and communities.

 

This year's retreat will be held on Saturday, October 6th in L-109. The retreat is free and includes all of your retreat materials and lunch. However, space is limited, and you must register in advance by turning in the registration form to the Office of Student Life. Deadline to register is Thursday, September 27th at 5:00pm. Applications will be online soon.
