    In preparation for the temporary relocation of Student Services offices, the LMC Cafeteria is undergoing a remodel. Entry to the Cafeteria is now from the outside of the building.     Admissions & Records Updates

    Graduation is not an automatic process - you MUST apply!
    apply earlyIf you will be completing your requirements for an associate degree or certificate of achievement in the spring 2012 term, your deadline to submit an application for graduation is Thursday, March 1.

    Early Graduation Application for Priority Registration Appointment
    In order to give students who are close to graduation an advantage in registering for the remaining classes needed in their last semester, students may apply for an early registration appointment by submitting an early application to graduate in the semester before their planned graduation date. The early registration appointment can only be utilized one time per student.

    Deadlines:

    • Summer graduation: January 17 - February 29 for an early registration appointment for summer 2012
    • Fall graduation: March 1 - April 16 for an early registration appointment for fall 2012

    Financial Aid News

    Title IV Fund Eligibility Change
    Title IV Fund Eligibility Change - Ability to Benefit

    Effective July 1, 2012 students without a high school diploma or its equivalent are ineligible to receive Title IV Funds (Federal grants) and, therefore, will need to seek alternative (state and/or private) financing. This change will only affect new students enrolling in their first post-secondary program of study.

    Relocation of Financial Aid Office
    The Financial Aid has relocated. Our new, temporary location is in the Public Safety Building (PS2) just northwest of the LMC Cafeteria (outside and left). This is due to the upcoming remodeling of the entire Student Services area in the College Complex, scheduled to begin early next year.

    Satisfactory Academic Progress workshops
    The suspension workshop dates for spring 2012 are posted on the Financial Aid website.

    Get Ready! Get Set! Go!
    Are you ready to do your FAFSA for the next academic year? The 2012-2013 FAFSA form is now available. Apply for FAFSA online. It's EASY! The online FAFSA is available in English and Spanish, and has step-by-step instructions for you to follow. Make sure you have everything you need to complete your FAFSA. If you need assistance, please come to one of our financial aid labs or one of the financial aid general workshops!

    Workshops
    Listed below are the general Financial Aid workshop dates for the spring 2012 semester which will be held in the Library, Room 213 from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. on the following dates:

    • March 20 (Tuesday)
    • April 18 (Wednesday)
    • May 7 (Monday)

    Financial Aid lab hours
    We offer assistance with PIN numbers, new or renewal FAFSA, new e-mail access, adding school codes, WebAdvisor for Financial Aid purposes:

    Spring 2012 lab hours:

    • Tuesdays: 2:30 - 4:30 p.m.
    • Friday: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

    Lab hours will be held in the CORE, Room CO-200. For more information or questions, call the Financial Aid Office at (925) 439-2181, ext. 3139.

    Do you know what the Chaffee grant is?
    If you are or were in foster care, you may be eligible for a Chafee Grant of up to $5,000 a year in addition to any other federal or state aid. To qualify for the Chafee grant, you must be enrolled at least half time and maintain good grades. A Social Security number is not required.
    More information about the Chaffee Grant can be found online.

    Cal Grant Deadline: March 2
    March 2 is the State of California deadline to apply for the Cal Grant. If you have not been awarded a Cal Grant already, you must complete both of these requirements:

    • A 2012-2013 FAFSA form (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be completed with the Federal processor by the March 2, 2012 deadline.
    • You must ensure that a certified Grade Point Average (GPA) Cal Grant GPA Verification Form is submitted to the California Student Aid Commission by March 2, 2012.

    Scholarship Opportunities

    Apply now
    Foster Youth Scholarship: $500 - $4,000
    Awards from $500 - $4,000 are being offered to students who meet the criteria.
    To obtain an application package, contact ILSP, or the LMC Counseling Office or Career Center. Application packets are due on or before Friday, March 9.

    Chicana/Latina Foundation Scholarship: $1,500
    Each year the Chicana Latina Foundation awards merit-based scholarships to Latina college students, valued at $1,500 dollars each 40 scholarships are being offered this year. Applications are now being accepted. Click here for eligibility requirements and an application. The deadline for submission is Friday, March 16.

    Assistance League of Diablo Valley: $4,000
    A scholarship of up to $4,000 is being offered by the Assistance League of Diablo Valley. For more information and an application packet, click here. Application packets are due Friday, March 2.

    Sheila Joseph Memorial Scholarship: $2,000
    For more information and an application packet, visit the Sheila Joseph Memorial Scholarship website. Application packets are due Thursday, March 1.

    AGS (Alpha Gamma Sigma) Scholarships
    AGS members have the opportunity to apply for the Ed Walsh and Kathleen D. Loly Scholarships. For more information and an application packet, click here. The application deadline is Thursday, March 1. For questions regarding these scholarships or about becoming a member of the AGS Club, please contact Phil Gottlieb, AGS Club Advisor, at (925) 439-2181,ext. 3382.

    EOPS and CARE Program Updates

    Through EOPS and CARE, eligible students receive supplemental educational support services, such as counseling, advisement, classes, workshops, peer support, and networking activities. In addition, grants and allowances for transportation and books/supplies are provided to enhance the retention, persistence, graduation and transfer rates of these academically high-risk students in their chosen educational objectives, which include vocational certificate or license, associate degree and transfer options.

    NOTE: The published application deadline for spring 2012 EOPS/CARE applications has passed and recruitment capacity has now been reached. There are no remaining spots for this semester. Fall 2012 recruitment will begin in June.

    Transfer Center News

    University Tours
    The Transfer Center sponsors visits to four-year universities each semester in order to allow students to become more familiar with the different campuses and what each campus can offer in terms of academics, as well as student life. Transportation is provided and it's FREE. Check with the Transfer Center for future university tours that will be offered or visit the Transfer Center online.

    Upcoming Tours: Black College Expo

    • February 18 (Saturday)
    • Departure time: 9:00 a.m.
    • Return time: 3:00 p.m.

    University Rep Visits
    Representatives from 4-year colleges and universities visit the Transfer Center throughout the semester. A list of upcoming transfer university representative visits can be found online.

    CSU-East Bay now offers 'On-the-Spot' Admissions
    What are "On the Spot Admissions"?

    If a student meets the following requirements he/she can be admitted to CSUEB on-the-spot for fall 2012:

    • You will have 60 or more transferable semester units completed by the end of spring semester 2012
    • You will have completed Areas A1 (Speech), A2 (English Composition), A3 (Critical Thinking) and B4 (Mathematics) with a grade of "C" or better by the end of spring semester 2012
    • Your overall GPA is at least 2.00
    • You have completed all of your transfer units at a community college located in the following counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, Sonoma, or Napa
    • You have applied for admissions online prior to your appointment
    • You have paid the $55 application fee prior to your appointment
    • Bring a copy of the application confirmation page to the On-the-Spot admission appointment
    *NOTE:
    • No On-the-Spot admissions for impacted programs (Nursing or Business)

    • March 1 (Thursday) is the ONLY day during this spring semester that CSU-East Bay will offer On-the-Spot admission appointments at Los Medanos College.

    Film will be shown from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. in the Library Community Room (L-109).

    Join the LMC Student Government!
    The Los Medanos College Associated Students (LMCAS) has positions open for student government senators. Join the student government and help plan fun events, provide valuable services to students, and most importantly be the "voice" of your student body. Weekly meetings are held on Mondays from 1:00 -3:00 p.m. in Library Conference Room 2 (L-106). Application deadline: February 27 (Monday) at 5:00 p.m. Applications for the spring semester are now available online.

    Inter-Club Council Meetings
    The Inter-Club Council meetings are held Mondays from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. in L-106 (Library conference Room 2). ICC is the coordinating body for all clubs and organizations on campus. Each club can be represented in ICC, which promotes engagement in community college activities. If your club is a member of ICC, it is imperative that your ICC Representative attend the meetings on a regular basis.
