    It looks like spring has finally come – just in time for Spring Break at LMC! Spring also brings many exciting annual events with it – the Job Fair, awards ceremonies and graduation, to name just a few. Be sure to read this month's issue of the e-news all the way to the end so you don't miss out on anything.


    Important Dates

    • April 18-23 – Spring Break, no classes; reduced office hours
    • April 22 – College closed
    • April 29 – Last day to drop a full-semester class
    • May 2 – Begin fall 2011 priority registration for EOPS, DSPS, and qualified veterans on WebAdvisor or phone registration system
    • May 4 – Begin fall 2011 registration for continuing students by appointment on WebAdvisor or phone registration system

    Graduation Update
    The 2011 LMC Graduation Ceremony is approaching! If you have applied for graduation, you should receive a letter in the mail soon regarding your status. If you qualify to participate in the 2011 graduation ceremony, you will receive another letter around the first week in May.

    If you are applying to walk in the 2011 graduation ceremony with no more than two summer classes remaining, you will need to file an Application for Graduation along with an Application to Walk in Graduation Ceremony with Coursework Remaining . You must be enrolled in your summer classes before the applications will be accepted. Complete graduation information and forms

    Important Notice About Tutoring Services
    Los Medanos College offers FREE tutoring and reading and writing consultation services to all LMC students. Any person claiming to be an LMC tutor or consultant who charges a fee is not affiliated in any way with the college.

    Registration Appointment Changes
    The Contra Costa Community College District (Contra Costa College, Diablo Valley College and Los Medanos College) has recently implemented a new registration priority system. For continuing students, the appointments have been broken down into groups of completed district units. More information

    InSite and InSite Mail Update
    If you are not logging in to your InSite page and InSite Mail regularly, you may be missing out. To get all your official college communications in one place, including WebAdvisor, instructor messages, Financial Aid and Admissions notifications and reminders, and much more, log on to InSite and activate your new email account . Click on the InSite/Wedadvisor logo on our homepage to get started today!

    Why must you check your InSite page regularly?
    All communications from the college will either be delivered to your InSite Mail or posted on your InSite portal page, including:

    • Online payment receipts
    • Schedule changes
    • Notification of Eligibility to Register from the Waitlist
    • All communications from faculty
    • Reminders of class start dates
    • Urgent messages from the college (emergencies, etc.)
    • and much more!

    Job Fair Coming on May 4th
    Looking for a job? LMC's Annual Community Job Fair will be held on Wednesday, May 4th, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Level 3 of the College Complex. Bring your resum� and meet employers from around the Bay Area. See the list of participating employers.

    Resum� Writing Workshops
    Don't have a resum� for the Job Fair? The Career Center is offering several resum� writing workshops at both campuses in April. For more information and to sign up, see the Career Center Calendar.

    Bookstore Updates
    The Bookstore will be closed during Spring Break, April 18th through 22nd.

    Financial Aid & Scholarships

    Financial Aid Workshop
    A general financial aid workshop will be held on Thursday, May 12, at 5:00 p.m. in the library. This informative workshop is designed to provide students with everything they need to know when applying for financial aid. Hands-on assistance with the FAFSA PIN and application will be provided.

    Financial Aid Lab Hours
    Financial Aid lab hours have changed. The lab, which is held in Room CO-200, is now open Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and Thursdays from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Drop in and get the help you need obtaining a FAFSA PIN, completing a new FAFSA or renewal FAFSA, setting up new e-mail access, adding the school code, and/or using WebAdvisor for financial aid purposes.

    Scholarship News
    $24,000 in 24 hours!
    StudentAdvisor.com, a Washington Post Company, will be awarding a $1,000 scholarship each hour for 24 Hours on April 26, 2011. To apply, submit a review of your college on StudentAdvisor.com by April 27th. Informational flyer

    Blood & Bone Marrow Donor Drive
    On Wednesday, April 27th, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Student Life and Blood Centers of the Pacific will host a blood and bone marrow donor drive in the Cafeteria. For more information or to schedule your donation appointment, contact the Student Life Office or sign up on line at www.bloodheroes.com; click on "Donate Blood" and enter sponsor code = losMC.

    Social Justice Film Series: Temple Grandin
    Join fellow students for a free showing of the film Temple Grandin on Thursday April 28th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Library Community Room (L109). We will have pizza, drinks and a discussion of the film after the screening.

    6th Annual Academic Competition
    The Office of Student Life will hold the 6th Annual LMC Academic Competition on Saturday, April 30th. This event is designed to motivate LMC students to achieve scholastically. It's a fun and interactive way for students to compete intellectually. All participants will receive free lunch, a certificate of participation, a free t-shirt, and a $10 gift certificate to the LMC Bookstore! Student teams must register for the event in advance.     Bike to Work Day: Thursday, May 12
    Help celebrate National Bike Month and California Bike Commute Week in May by participating in Bike to Work Day on Thursday, May 12th. From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., LMC will provide an energizer station in the Outdoor Quad where cyclists can stop by for refreshments and promotional items.

    Bike to Work Day is a promotional event to encourage non-bike riders to try commuting by bicycle. In the San Francisco Bay Area, Bike to Work Day is primarily funded by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission with the help of financial donations from event sponsors and volunteers.

    STELAR Awards: Monday, May 16
    The Office of Student Life is happy to announce its Annual STELAR Leadership Awards celebration to be held on Monday, May 16th from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the Outdoor Quad! This program is an opportunity to recognize outstanding LMC student leaders and clubs. You can nominate other students or even yourself! Nomination Form

    Student clubs and leaders will be acknowledged and awarded for their positive contribution to LMC through their execution of projects and programs, commitment to growth, and their embodiment of the spirit of leadership. Students who are recognized at the ceremony will receive a framed award and have their name engraved on our perpetual plaques.

    Join the LMC Student Government!
    The Los Medanos College Associated Students (LMCAS) has positions open for student government senators. Join the student government and help plan fun events, provide valuable services to students, and, most importantly, be the "voice" of your student body. Application

    LMCAS Senate Meetings are held on Mondays from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in Library Conference Room 2 (L106).

    Inter Club Council Meetings
    ICC Meetings are held on Mondays from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Library Conference room 2 (L106).

    Brentwood Center Activities

    CSU East Bay Representative Visits
    A CSU East Bay representative will be available at the Brentwood Center to answer questions about admissions and programs on Thursday, April 28th and Thursday, May 12th from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. Call (925) 513-1625 to arrange an appointment.

    WOW Factor Resum� Workshop
    Get ready for the East County Job Fair! The Career Center is offering a free resum� writing workshop at Brentwood Center to current students, alumni, and community members. Learn how to market yourself in your resum� on Thursday, April 28th from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. in Room C1.

    Private University Workshop
    Is a private university right for YOU? Attend this workshop on Tuesday, May 3rd from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Brentwood Room C1 to find out whether a private university is in your future, or how you can plan for it to be. Learn about the admissions process, the pros and cons, and how you can get there.

    Brandman University Representative Visit
    On Thursday, May 12th, a representative of Brandman University will be available at the Brentwood Center to answer all of your questions about admissions and college programs.

    FAFSA Workshop
    Need to know what financial monies might be available to assist you in school? Need help completing and filing your FAFSA application? Attend the FAFSA Workshop on Thursday, May 12th from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Brentwood Room C2 to get answers to all of your FAFSA questions.

    Financial Aid Representative
    On Thursdays, a representative of the Financial Aid Office is available by appointment and drop-in at Brentwood Center to assist with forms, corrections, completions and to answer questions. Contact (925) 513-1625 to arrange an appointment.
