Greetings!
Now that the weather has finally warmed up, it's time for fun and relaxation - vacations, swimming, hiking, barbecues or just lounging on the deck with a good book. It may also be time to squeeze in a class or two. There are some important changes taking place and opportunities to be aware of at LMC this summer, too, so please take time to read through this newsletter as you sip your lemonade.

Purchase Parking Permits Online
Purchasing parking permits has just become more convenient! Full-term permits can now be purchased online through WebAdvisor on the Academic Services menu. Permits will no longer be available for purchase on campus. Summer parking permits are already available online and fall permits will go on sale three weeks before the start of fall semester. If you prefer to pay cash for your permit, you can order it on the computer kiosk outside of the Cashier's Office and then pay at the Cashier's window. EOPS students can order their permits at the kiosk located in the EOPS Office.
Upon payment, you will be emailed a 7-day temporary parking permit that can be printed out and used until the permanent parking permit arrives at your home in two to three business days. Your permit is valid at any campus parking lot in the district. Permits are required during the following hours: 7:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 7:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on Friday. For more information, see Parking and Transportation.
Parking Fees Increasing
On June 1st, the cost of daily parking permits increased from $2 to $3. Summer session parking permits are $20 for automobiles, motorcycles and mopeds. Beginning with the fall 2010 semester, parking permit fees will increase from $35 to $40 for automobiles and from $20 to $25 for motocycles and mopeds. Students who qualify for the Board of Governors Fee Waiver will continue to pay $20 for the automobile parking permit. Fines for parking citations will increase from $35 to $40. Parking Fees Q&A
Parking Lot B Closure and Expansion If you have had difficulty parking at LMC this past year, you will be happy to to know that 400 parking spaces will be added to Parking Lot B this summer. Lot B will be closed for construction from July 6th through August 12th. Current plans are to reopen in time for the start of fall semester on August 13th. Parking Lots A and C will remain open and provide plenty of parking for students taking summer classes or conducting business on campus.
We will send an update right before classes begin regarding Lot B status if, for some reason, the lot construction delays the opening of Lot B.

Transition from FFELP to Direct Loan Program
On March 30, 2010, President Obama signed the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (HCERA) which makes significant changes to Federal Student Loan programs. One of the provisions of the HCERA is the elimination of the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) and implementation of the Federal Direct Loan Program. Therefore, effective July 1, 2010, all new Stafford, PLUS and consolidation loans will be funded and disbursed under the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program. The transition will be, for the most, part seamless; students and parents will obtain a Direct Loan in essentially the same manner as they would have under the FFELP loan program. Read more about the Federal Direct Loan Program.

New Online Resource |
|
When logging on to WebAdvisor, you may have noticed a button labelled "Try it Now!" on the right side of the page. Clicking on this button will take you to the new inSite Beta portal, a valuable new resource for students. If you haven't checked it out yet, why not log in to inSite now, using your WebAdvisor user name and password, and see what's there?
On the left side of the page, you'll find a calendar that contains your class schedule information, with your classes for the current week listed below. Campus events appear on the lower left. In the middle of the page, you'll see important reminders for students, including holidays, add and drop dates, registration start dates, etc. On the right side of the page are links to the LMC home page, the Library and Bookstore pages, and Blackboard, followed by LMC news and photos. At the top of the page you'll see real-time weather in Pittsburg and Brentwood, as well as a WebAdvisor icon that will take you to all of your academic records - transcripts, grades, educational plans, test scores, class schedules — anything you currently look for on WebAdvisor.
Currently in the Beta stage, inSite has not been fully implemented. In the near future, clubs and committees will be able to create workspaces on inSite for members to share ideas, make plans, post meeting notes, etc. Our intention is for InSite to become your gateway to all online resources in Contra Costa Community College District.
