    Got the mid-semester blues? Wish you could spend more time outdoors? Hang in there - spring break is just around the corner! In the meantime, we want to remind you that summer registration begins soon. Be sure to check WebAdvisor for your summer and fall priority registration dates. Read on for some additional reminders, updates, and special events.

    Important Dates

    The Last Day to Apply for Spring 2009 Graduation is April 15th!

    • March 31 - April 9, Summer Session online and phone registration for Continuing Students by appointment (those enrolled at LMC during Summer 2008, Fall 2008 or Spring 2009)
    • April 11 - 17, Spring Break NO CLASSES; however offices will be open in Pittsburg Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Brentwood Center offices will also be open but will close at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

    Attention Transferring Students!
    If you are planning to transfer in fall 2009 or spring 2010, we would very much like to honor you at the Student Success Ceremony to be held in the Recital Hall on May 8th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sign up online or at the Transfer Center; or call extension 3124.

    Scholarship News

    Performing Arts Scholarship 2009

    This $500 scholarship is for new or continuing LMC students with a love of performing arts.

    Guidelines: Write a 250-word essay that best captures your favorite performing art (i.e. music, dance, drama, writing), and why and how it impacts your life. Essays must be typed in 12 pt Times New Roman font and double-spaced. Turn your essay into the Scholarship Office by 5:00 p.m. Friday, April 17th.

    Recipients will be asked to participate in a short award ceremony on Saturday, May 2 at 3:00 p.m. at Los Medanos College during the Cultural Arts Festival.

    Assessment Center Update
    The Assessment Testing Schedule through May is now online. Testing is also available at Brentwood Center.

    Career Center News

Come to the Career Center where you can take a variety of assessments to determine your interests, personality style, skills and values. Does your resume seem to get lost in the shuffle? Are you having trouble getting interviews? We'll help you target your resume toward the position you desire, emphasizing your skills, talents and abilities to attract employers. See the Career Center bulletin board (across from the Career Center) for our success stories!

    Explore Careers in PTEC and ETEC
    The Process Technology (PTEC) and Electrical/Instrumentation Technology (ETEC) programs will be presenting an information session for current LMC students who are exploring career options. The information session will be held on April 30th in the Library Community Room, L109, from 12:40 to 1:20 p.m. Please come and join us - refreshments will be served!

    DSPS News
    DSPS student priority registration for the fall semester is April 30 and May 1st. Please schedule an appointment to see a DSPS counselor to help plan your upcoming classes and review your accommodations and services. Appointments are filling up quickly so call today!

    Financial Aid Updates
    It's not too late to apply for 2008-2009 Financial Aid!

    We can help you with the FAFSA application! Register now to attend the Financial Aid Workshop on Wednesday, April 22nd from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.

    Last day to submit documents for next Financial Aid payday: Friday, April 17th by 2:00 p.m. BOG Fee Waiver and general financial aid questions can be handled at the front counter. For other assistance, call extension 3139 to make an appointment or drop in on Tuesday or Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. For SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress) Workshops, contact the Financial Aid Office.

    Check WebAdvisor for all your student records including financial aid status and account information. Contact the Financial Aid Office at extension 3139 for other questions.

    Transfer Center News
    Have you been accepted for transfer this fall? Unsure what to do next? The Transfer Center is planning workshops for transferring students to help you with your next steps. Keep an eye on the Transfer Center website for the upcoming workshop schedule. Some of the topics will include how to apply for financial aid, apply for housing and register for classes at the university.

    LMCAS & Student Trustee Elections (May 4-6)
    LMCAS (Student Government) and District Student Trustee Elections are coming soon and will be held May 4-6. Voting for both elections will take place online. To find out more about each election and the candidates, visit the LMCAS and District Student Trustee web pages.

    ICC presents Club Day: Wednesday April 22, 2009
    Come celebrate Earth Day with LMC student clubs in the new quad 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

    Blood Drive: Wednesday, April 22, 2009 Student Life will be hosting a Blood Drive in partnership with Blood Centers of the Pacific on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the Cafeteria.     Join the LMC Rotaract Club!
    Rotaract is a community-service club. This semester we are planning a dinner to benefit children in Northern Uganda, participating in Relay for Life, and going to the zoo for a cleanup day. We are also making care packages for troops overseas and will be working at a fundraiser for the Bedford Center. For more information, contact our president, Morgan Livingston.

    The Rotaract Club and Honors Program invite you to a fabulous pasta dinner on April 4th at 6:00 p.m. to benefit Invisible Children, a charity organization that helps schools and students in Northern Uganda. Tickets are $15 and all are welcome. Come and enjoy a live jazz band, a speaker from Uganda, and be entered in a drawing for a chance to win exciting prizes, including a football signed by Joe Montana.

    Student Life Presents: Social Justice Film Series #3, "The Laramie Project"
    Wednesday, April 29, 2009 in the Library Community Room (L109) at 3:00 p.m. Come early - light refreshments will be served!

    4th Annual Academic Competition (Saturday, April 25, 2009)
    Applications are now available to for student teams to compete in this year's LMCAS Academic Competition! All participants will receive a free lunch, an event t-shirt, and a $10 gift certificate to the LMC Bookstore. The top 5 winning teams will receive scholarships of $400-$3000!!!     Umoja Scholars Program

    "A Place Where Goals and Dreams Are Realized"

    The Umoja Scholars Program is NOW accepting applications. Umoja will address your needs through academic support services and an African-American focused curriculum. If you are seeking to fulfill your academic dreams, come and be part of a supportive learning environment that fosters cultural unity and academic success.
