    Blooming trees, wildflowers and even an occasional warm, sunny day! As you see the early signs of the coming of spring, summer may still seem far away, but it's not too soon to begin planning your summer and fall classes. The summer course schedule is already online and available in print at the Admissions Office, Bookstore and Brentwood Center. The fall schedule will be online toward the end of March. Now is the time to make an appointment to see a counselor to plan your summer and fall classes.


    Important Dates

    • March 30 - Summer Session priority registration for EOPS, DSPS, & Qualified Veterans, online and phone registration only
    • March 31 - Summer Session online and phone registration for Continuing Students by appointment (those enrolled at LMC Summer 2008, Fall 2008 or Spring 2009)

    Financial Aid & Scholarships

    Financial Aid Updates

    There's still time to apply for 2008-2009 Financial Aid. Visit the FAFSA website.

    If you have not yet received a Financial Aid payment for fall 2008 and/or spring 2009, all requested documentation must be submitted to the LMC Financial Aid Office no later than Friday, March 20, 2009 by 2:00 p.m. to meet the next payday. Contact the Financial Aid Office if you have questions at (925) 439-2181, ext. 3139.

    The Financial Aid Office can process your BOG Fee Waiver and handle general financial aid questions at the front counter. Appointments may be made for Monday, Wednesday or Friday; or you may drop in on Tuesday or Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Need assistance completing the FAFSA application? Register for a Financial Aid Workshop. For SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress) Workshops, please contact the Financial Aid Office.

    You can see your Financial Aid status, award letters, and account information online. Check WebAdvisor for all your student records.

    Scholarship News

    The Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) will award a minimum of two $3,000 scholarships this spring to qualified students in water resources-related fields. See Scholarship Guidelines or click here for the application. Deadline for filing an application is April 1, 2009. Visit the Scholarship website for information about this and other scholarship opportunities.

    If you like chili - or chili dogs - don't miss the LMC Classified Senate annual Chili Cook-Off on March 11th in the outdoor quad! Proceeds will be donated to the Classified Senate Scholarship fund and used to provide scholarships for LMC students. Look for banners and flyers announcing this event around the campus.

    The March Assessment Testing Schedule is now online. Testing is also available at Brentwood Center.

    Career Center News

    Attention "undecided students" and job seekers! Are you having trouble selecting a major? Come to the Career Center where you can take a variety of assessments to determine your interests, personality style, skills and values. Does your resume seem to get lost in the shuffle? Are you having trouble getting interviews? We'll help you target your resume toward the position you desire, emphasizing your skills, talents and abilities to attract employers. See the Career Center bulletin board (across from the Career Center) for our success stories!

    DSPS Reminders

    Priority Registration for the summer 2009 semester is March 30. Make your appointment now to plan for your summer classes and update your Student Educational Contract. This is also a good time to review your accommodations and services.

    Honors Program Invites You to VOTE for LMC's Top 10 Favorite Books

    In celebration of its 10th Anniversary, the Honors Program is hosting a campus-wide contest for LMC's Top 10 Favorite Books from now through March 13th. Just print out a ballot and vote for any book you think is worthy - fiction, nonfiction, children's books, whatever. The books that get the most votes, win. Winners will be announced at a celebration event in late March where you can nosh on treats and hear excerpts read by LMC "celebrities". If you vote for a book that gets in the Top 10, you'll be entered in a raffle for prizes! Questions? E-mail Honors Director Jennifer Saito.

    Dr. Jorge Partida will speak on the subject "Sharing the Wisdom of the Generations" on Monday March 16th from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall. Dr. Partida, author of "The Promise of the Fifth Sun, an Ancestral Journey of Self Discovery", will be on hand after the lecture to sign books.     Transfer Center News

    Planning to transfer to a 4-year college or university? A representative from your chosen school may be here in March. To make an appointment with a representative from Sacramento State, UC Berkeley, JFK University, St. Mary's College, or San Francisco State, visit the Transfer Center or call (925) 439-2181, ext. 3125. Check the Transfer Center website for the dates and times of college and university representative visits. Stop in and say hi to our drop-in Transfer Center counselors. That's right!     Tutoring Center offers Free Tutoring Services!

    The Tutoring Center offers tutoring in various subjects, including Art History, Anthropology, Astronomy, Business, Chemistry, Computer Science, ESL, History, Humanities, Music Theory, Political Science, Psychology, Physics, Sign Language, and Spanish. We hope you will come take advantage of this free service. Visit us in the Reading and Writing Center, Room CC2-254 Monday-Thursday, 9am - 8pm and Friday, 9am - 3pm.     4th Annual Academic Competition (Saturday, April 25, 2009)

    Applications are now available to for student teams to compete in this year's LMCAS Academic Competition! All participants will receive a free lunch, an event t-shirt, and a $10 gift certificate to the LMC Bookstore. The top 5 winning teams will receive scholarships of $400-$3000!!!     posterA protest march from Raley field to the Sacramento State Capitol This is a district wide coordinated event and collaborated with the state's community college associated students! Students, faculty, and staff will be marching in Sacramento to protest community college budget cuts. Participants will leave LMC for Sacramento via a charter bus at 8am and will arrive back on campus by 4pm. Only 50 seats available! This event is open to all students, faculty, and staff.
