    Welcome to the Fall 2008 semester at Los Medanos College! And what an exciting semester it will be!

    Here are some important dates and reminders for the new semester:


    Getting Started with the Fall 2008 Semester

    IMPORTANT FALL SEMESTER DATES - DON'T FORGET!

    • August 16 & 23 - Open Saturdays (8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in Admissions, Financial Aid, Bookstore and Information Services)
    • August 18 - Weekday Classes Begin
    • August 23/24 - Saturday/Sunday Classes Begin
    • August 29 - Last Day to Add a Semester Length Course and pay fees
    • August 29 - Last Day to Drop a Semester Length Course and be eligible for a refund
    • August 30/31 - HOLIDAY WEEKEND - No Classes
    • September 1 - Labor Day - HOLIDAY - No Classes
    • September 12 - Last day to file drop and avoid a "W" on academic record
    • September 12 - Last day to petition for Credit/No Credit
    • September 26 - Native American Day - HOLIDAY - No Classes

    PARKING PERMITS
    parking meter Police Services will not begin ticketing for parking violations until September 2, 2008. Parking permits go on sale in Admissions and Records and at the Cashier's Office beginning in late August.

    Parking permit fees:

    • Daily - $2
    • Semester - $35
    • Semester (with BOG Grant) - $20

    Ticket machines for daily permits are located in the campus parking lots and at various locations on campus. The machines accept dollar bills as well as coins (except for pennies) and also the new gold coin dollar. In the near future they will also be able to accept ATM and debit cards.

    BOOKSTORE HOURS
    books Fall semester textbooks are now available for purchase!

    Regular Bookstore Hours

    • Monday - Thursday, 7:45 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
    • Friday, 7:45 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
    • Saturdays & Sundays, CLOSED
    Extended Bookstore Hours
    August 16th - 29th
    • Monday - Thursday, 7:45 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
    • Friday , 7:45 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
    • Saturday (8/16 & 23), 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

    Last Day For Text Book Refunds
    August 29 is the last day for text book refunds. A current semester receipt is required for all exchanges/refunds. Books must be in original condition.

    Book Buyback

    • Sept. 2 - 4, Tuesday - Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
    • Sept. 5, Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

    New Students - Do You Know How to Get Your Student ID Card, Free Bus Pass and Also Receive 5% Off Your Textbook Purchases?
    Card Bring a copy of your fall 2008 class schedule and your photo ID to the second floor of the Library to receive your student ID card and FREE BUS PASS.

    ID cards are required in order to use library books and materials, campus computer labs, the Assessment Center and other student services. With a current ID card, you can also receive a free Fall 2008 semester Tri-Delta Transit bus pass.

    Beginning August 18th, you can pick up a free bus pass in the Library or in the quad near the Cafeteria (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.). After August 25th, you may obtain a free bus pass in the Library (2nd Floor), Student Life Office or at the Information Services Desk. For more information, click here.

    During registration our office hours will be as follows:

    • Monday - Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
    • Fridays, 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
    • Saturday (August 16 & 23), 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
    Regular office hours will be as follows:
    • Monday - Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
    • Fridays, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

    FAFSA Applications
    It's Not Too Late to Apply for Financial Aid!

    The 2008-2009 FAFSA Deadline is: June 30, 2009. For those of you who have not yet completed a 2008- 2009 FAFSA, complete your FAFSA online.

    Federal Work-Study
    Federal Work-Study will be administered through the Financial Aid office for the 2008-2009 academic year. Students who have been awarded Federal Work- Study must report to the Financial Aid office by August 29, 2008 to activate their award. Failure to do so may result in cancellation of the Federal Work-Study award.

    If you have any questions, visit the Financial Aid website, or call (925) 439-2181, ext. 3139 to schedule an appointment to meet with a Financial Aid staff member or drop by the office.

    (No Financial Aid workshops are scheduled at this time - please check the Financial Aid website at a later date).

    SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

    Eva Mills Armstead Memorial Scholarship
    One (1) scholarship available at $250.00 per semester.

    Student Services Updates

    CAREER AND ASSESSMENT CENTER
    Career Center Hours

    • Monday 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
    • Tuesday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
    • Wednesday 10:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
    • Thursday 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
    • Friday 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

    NOTE: Occasional variations to the above schedule may occur due to staffing shortages. Any changes will be posted on the Assessment Center door.

    English and Math Assessment Information
    You may drop in to Room CC3-524 anytime between the hours listed above to complete your English and Math assessment tests. No appointment is necessary and there is no fee.

    IMPORTANT: Please bring a photo ID card, such as a driver's license, with you. You MUST have a current Admissions Application on file. You MUST begin testing no later than the end time for that day. For example, 9:00-11:00 a.m. means you may start your test up until but no later than 11:00 a.m. on that day. Please allow 1� to 2 hours for testing.

    Brentwood Center Assessment Testing
    Brentwood's drop-in assessment testing hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and is done on a space available basis. Please call ahead at (925) 513-1625 during drop-in hours to confirm space availability. Testing may also be available on Fridays and Saturdays by appointment only.

    EMPLOYMENT CENTER UPDATE

    Online Job Search
    The Employment Center is in the process of adding an upgraded and feature-rich online job search website by partnering with College Central Network. The system will enable students to register, upload their resume, and search for jobs, both on and off campus. The service is free to all eligible students, alumni, and employers. The site will be operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This service will be available by the start of the fall semester.

    ESL STUDENT REMINDER
    Now is the time to plan out your fall schedule by making a counseling appointment with Luis Morales, ESL Counselor. Call Carmen Pacheco at (925) 439-2181 ext. 3423 to schedule your appointment now. You can also get help resolving other important academic and personal issues.

    ESL classes are offered at both the main campus and at the Brentwood Center.

    The LMC Library is open Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 p.m.; Friday from 7:45 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Plus, you have access to our virtual, online Library which is open all the time from anywhere in the world.     Athletics News

    The LMC Mustang football team will begin Fall Camp beginning on Friday, August 15, in preparation for their season opening game with Contra Costa College at Pittsburg High School on September 6.

    PLEASE NOTE: Our football stadium is undergoing a renovation and astro-turf is being installed. During this renovation, Pittsburg High School will be the temporary site for all LMC home football games.
