Bishops Urged Congress to Support
Conscience Act

WASHINGTON- The U.S. Bishops urged Congress to support the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act in response to a proposal from the Institute of Medicine (IOM) that private health plans be required to cover all FDA-approved contraceptives under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).
In a July 22 letter, Cardinal DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, chairman of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities of the USCCB, said the legislation, introduced by Reps. Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE) and Dan Boren (D-OK), would prevent any new mandates under health care reform from being used to disregard Americans' freedom of conscience. . . . more.

Angela Solis arrived at the Bishop's Pro-Life Secretariat in early June, working on special projects and tracking news. Angela views her time with us as a teaching and encouraging experience. "I am grateful to be part of the work done here. We bring God's message of unconditional love for the dignity of every human life to those hurt and confused by threats to life in society." She returns this fall as a senior to Davidson College. As a Political Science major, she plans to combine her faith and passion for the family with her interest in law and politics.
